Okay, I admit that I am bored sitting here in the dark with only the light of the computer to keep me company....This storm is not disappointing it's forcasters. Here in NorCal, the winds are gusting 50mph and the rain is coming down in buckets. A few minutes ago, a transformer blew, so we have the added inconvenience of no lights. Rock and roll!

Down here in So Cal (I'm in Orange County), we got some drizzle overnight, but now it is just partly cloudy. No wind to speak of. It's supposed to rain more tonight and tomorrow, which doesn't bode well for the folks at the foot of the mountains, especially near where the Station fire was.

Crest is socked in. Tioga closed. Headed for LP this afternoon, so it'll be fun in the cross-winds in the TOF... eek

Here in Bako it is trying to rain, but so far nothing much. Back at home in Alpaugh (between Visalia & Bakersfield) the radar map shows significant rain. Maybe enough to settle the dust!

Monterey Bay:
Started raining HEAVILY in the night and has continued ever since. Gusty winds. We had a short electricity outage around 7:30 AM.

Here in Huntington Beach, it's raining and windy. I am inside with my 350 PE students and I can't wait to get to HM this weekend. Right now, my hair hurts. HELP??!!

Sunny and party cloudy in Rancho Penasquitos (San Diego)very light wind.
It rained lightly last night, just enough to make my bamboo happy.

Thanks for the update Doug. I was wondering how it was doing up there.

Update from Monterey Bay:
Ben Lomond, a community in the Santa Cruz Mts. near here, has gotten 6.1" of rain since the the storm began last night! Still pouring. I guess every inch that falls here is an inch that doesn't make it to the Sierra.

As of 5 PM in Bishop, it has been raining steadily since this morning. Expecting heavy snow fall in the Sierras. Possible flash floods in deserts. Maybe we'll have a great ski season!

Laura, good to see you back on the board! We missed you...

Report from flyover country:

At home (St. Louis, MO) it has been wet and chilly, about 10 degrees below normal for October.

I've been up in the Great White North (Minneapolis) this week running EMI (that's electromagnetic interference for those of you who aren't EE-type geeks) tests on medical equipment. We got a couple of inches of fluffy white stuff Monday but most of it melted off today.

The whole midwest has been in the chiller for the month of October. Weird weather...if this keeps up, it'll be an interesting winter here in the middle of the country.

expect a big dump in the Sierra. Avg over 1/2" rain per hr here in Ptown (East Bay, CA), all day long! There are 200' diameter by 8" deep ponds in many of the corporate parking lots. It is only a number of hrs before you guys in the Sierra get hit by it.
