Has anyone hiked in the Yosemite high country in the past week? I want to hike Clouds Rest, Ten Lakes, Young lakes, etc. next week. I called the backcountry office there and their info was sketchy. Are these routes passable?

Here is the link to Yosemite weather: http://www.yosemite.national-park.com/weather.htm

Keep you eye on potential storms this month. Possible snow showers this weekend. Tuolumne Meadows is in winter mode now, with freezing temps at night. Probably patchy snow on the trails near the meadows, with more in the higher elevations. Be prepared! The store, etc., are closed for the season. The Tioga Pass road is currently open, but will close whenever the next storm arrives.

Bear in mind that there is no overnight parking on Tioga Road (Hwy 120) since October 15th. There is no overnight parking on any of Glacier Point Road or Badger Pass either due to repaving. You would have to start from the valley and go up Little Yosemite Valley or up the Snow Creek Trail. And there is the Four Mile Trail up to Glacier Point.

There is a lot of not-so-high back country out of Hetch Hetchy. The road to the dam is kept open all year.

There is very little snow anywhere and nothing below 9000'.
It will be cold.

Thank you, Mike. Would you happen to know the hiking conditions in Mammoth? Duck Pass, Convict Lake, etc?

If you look at the pictures of the hikes on Thor a couple of weekends ago there is very little snow anywhere.

It is getting very cold at night though. I think somebody posted a few days ago that is was -4 near the peak of Whitney.

Anyway there are people on the east side that will have more accurate and complete information on the conditions in these areas.
Here is a recent picture posted on the winter conditions thread:

I hiked the JMT from Tuolomne meadows to Sunrise HC then to Clouds Rest to LYV and happy isles.... Most of the trail is pretty good but we lost the trail due to snow and lack of tracks in one of the meadows near cathedral rock? mt cathedral. not sure the exact name.. not an issue w/ a good map/gps and we got back on track.... nights were cold though but the campfire helped us out. I did this last week Friday afternoon - Sunday.. Sure more of the snow is gone now too. after sunrise lakes to clouds rest.. there is almost no snow. most of it was between sunrise lakes, sunrise, and tioga road.

think most of the snow we saw was from the storm at the middle of last week. also we hitchhiked up tioga road from the valley where we left our car, no other easy way up there.
