If anyone is interested, the American Hiking Society has an MR trail project scheduled 7/18 - 7/24/2010. Details are here

If anyone is flying in from out of town for the project, let me know (share car, etc.).

Other considerations:

1.) 100% tax deductible
2.) 2 days at Portal, including "life affirming pancakes", burgers, a great beer selection and general camaraderie
3.) 1 day at LBSL
4.) 1 day at UBSL
5.) the company of the best rangers on the planet
6.) opportunity to give back
7.) shot at the top via MR

Come on, people!

That $275 "registration" fee has me a bit stumped....

(I can certainly see making a "donation"..but..but..but..
$275??!?!)

Hey Greg definitely worthwhile, probably will get a lot more interest as summer approaches. For some of us, where to meet for lunch represents long-range planning.

Also, more than willing to lend strong back/weak mind to volunteer enterprise but confess to mild confusion as to necessity of paying for the privilege. Seems like an unusual approach. Did I miss a memo?

Hi all - if you are a member of AHS it is $220 (booked before 1/31/10, I think), and that covers all the food, gloves, camp provisioning, etc...basically everything except travel cost.

On some AHS outings the fee pays for pack animals, cook, etc. but Whitney is a bit more rustic. Can't say for sure what the leaders of this one will provide, but I count on nothing except food.

If you consider the ever-increasing tax rates, assume 40%, that means your per-day food cost is (220*(1-.4))/7 = ~ $19, and you're on the mountain for a week for free.

The people are great and the work has it's own rewards - I learned a lot before and expect the same this time.
