hit preview, patiently wait, go to page 117 to see the Portal Store and some of Doug's wonderful burgers doing their magic

http://www.blurb.com/books/1047557

I only made the book to get these two kids to realize how cool their trip was, and to convince the princess that she really wants to try again for the yo-yo hike in 2010. He is already signed up and will do it with or without his sister...

Anyway - these Blurb one-off books are pretty amazing (I'm holding two copies in my hand right now, ready for the holiday wrap). If you ever felt like publishing something just "because" this is it - no minimum 1000 copies and big investment, and the quality is really what they claim. The only thing I don't like is that the binding isn't "lay-flat" and two page spreads need to be planned well because of that deep gutter.

the books with the nice paper and hard cover, 120 pages worth cost about $90 each. These books are pretty large. You can start out much smaller

The software is free, but it's not something you want to run on a slow computer because you are dealing with large image files. It is quite easy to use for anyone who has a basic understanding of word processing and imaging software and how all these things work together. I think I only once had to look up something in the online help (how to do a two page spread), but everything else was covered by the template I chose.

Hi Fish and family, Ok had enough time to download the book , Laura and I talked about it last night the photos are classic but the kids and action are the gems , sometimes you can look at the same area and see a different sunset or snow field but adding your write ups and the family doing something as a long as the JMT gives you the sense of being there. SEE YOU NEXT YEAR!The Portal Crew

Good on you. This is definitely a case of "product of their enviroment". You should be so proud of your kids, and yourself. An experience they will never forget. What are their ages, and what was the longest hike you did together before this one? This sure brought back great memories of times I spent hiking with my father, rest his soul.

We did most of the JMT in 2008 when they were just 10. Had to bail at Taboose Pass when blisters became painful and overall motivation was running low. Before that they never did more than short day hikes, so that year was pretty rough.

Next summer at age 12, they'll be seasoned Sierra veterans and that "youngest hikers to do the Muir Trail Yo-Yo" goal still stands. I think it's 90% certain we'll be back and hopefully this time around we'll really grab our food cache at the Portal store and head right back up. We may even bring a fishing rod and do things we cut out this summer to save a few ounces from the packs, but really enjoyed in 2008, like here at Evolution Lake
