Planning on climbing Lone Pine Peak Dec 29/30. Have climbed in the area before and seen the route from the NE chute (but that was in the summer).

Would like any comments or advice on a winter ascent regarding the route.

Thank you!

I assume you mean the NW chute. It's great if you have consolodated snow -- way better than doing it in summer when it's just a horrendous scree chute. Don't know if snow will be very consolodated however. Not much else to say about the route. Just go up the chute and return the same way. There is also a very fine route up the ENE drainage (not mentioned in Secor) on the NE side of the peak but that won't be in condition till maybe March at the earliest.

Lori,

I would advise you NOT to climb LPP considering the information provided by Rick Kent. LPP will always be there for the summer. Mt. Hood comes to my mind.

Hike the Meysan Lake trail and take plenty of pictures. You should have the whole place to yourself, sans a marmot or two.

I did it last April. Aside from some REALLY unconsolidated snow lower down in the Meysan Creek drainage, the route was alright. The chute topped out further from the summit than I expected. Also, as a lot of low angle chutes go, it was relatively uninteresting climbing.

Everyone

I thought the route was pretty straight forward having seen it in the summer months. Thanks for the info and I totally respect the consolidated snow concern.

I will check it out and see what the conditions are when I arrive.

Thanks again for the info and words of cautionary.
