John Muir Trail: The Essential guide to hiking America's most famous trail, from Wilderness Press. It's written by a Bishop, CA local, Elizabeth Wenk. Icludes north-south and south-north descriptions, including GPS coordinates, recommended campsites, maps, stream-crossing recommendations, floral and fauna, side-trips, re-supply info, etc. It's the best I've seen, so far.

Ansel Adams' Sierra Nevada: The John Muir Trail; I suggest the Letterpress edition.

I don't own a copy, but did purchase Einstein's Theory of Relativity for reading on the trails. But Dustrunner (below) is correct; that's more appropriate around the campfire. Homer's Odyssey is the one to take on the JMT.

Einstein's Theory sounds like an excellent camp talk - it might send folks to bed earlier than usual...LOL.
