Does anyone know when you are notified of whether or not you were granted a permit for Whitney ? I sent my application in on Feb 10th.
Has anyone already been notified if they got theirs or not ?

On the back of the form, it says to expect notification starting April 1.

The last year or two they have sent out all the notifications and billed all credit cards at the completion of the lottery. It was sometime in April last year.

Actually, last year several people received rejection letters in the third week of March and some saw their credit cards hit starting on Mar 31st. If I recall correctly, last years lottery was ENORMOUS in comparison to previous years. Steve C may have some stats on that?

When I mailed in the application I had the Forest Service website open and I selected the dates according to the ones listed as still available. Does anyone know if their website is accurate and updated ?

Last year my card was hit April 02 and I received my notice on April 06. Also, if I recall correctly, the team handling the applications had a bout of the flu and colds. Despite illness they pulled off the effort fairly quickly.

I wrote a check...............does this even matter (check vs credit card) ? ?

If I understand correctly, this year the FS was supposed to start drawing requests from the lottery on February 16th. Applications would still be accepted until February 28th. So it is possible that some applicants may already see their visa get charged or even get official notice.

Today we received the first confirmation in the mail for Aug 10th
for the main trail. Only 8 more to go.

Thought I'd chime in and confirm that yes, reservations/ confirmations are indeed being sent out. To my surprise I received mine yesterday (3/1) for a one-nighter on Saturday, July 17.

This has been the way it has been for at least the past several years or more.

I got notified that I got a one day permit. I havent heard anything yet about my over night permit.

I received my overnight permit (actual permit is picked up one to 2 days prior) on march 1st in the mail . It's pretty early - June 2nd so I guess that was an easy one for them! Good luck to everyone I hope you get the dates you want! I am so excited to go back!

I also received mine. It came today - 3/3. My friend received hers a couple days ago. We're doing a day hike on Mon 7/26. Now to find a campsite as Whitney Portal is full for that weekend already!

I just got my notification. It was my first pick for 3, on August 1. I wonder why they are sending them out so eary this year? Good luck guys

Several folks have received their notices in the mail, has anyone seen a credit card hit?

Yes. They started processing the charges late last week. (My credit card was processed last Friday.)

One question I have had is if I dont draw in the lottery, do I get a refund? Can I apply my application fee toward a left over permit or do you pay another $15 ??
