City of San Diego gave up looking for this man after just 2 days.
Pretty cruddy. link to information on missing man

Some of you know our buddy Joe. He runs SD City communications & radio. I got the message Monday that the city had pulled all volunteers. Joe has permission to conduct further searches, but lacks manpower. A few of us are going to meet at Lake Sutherland Saturday, April 3rd about 7am. Just remember, it is a search and you could take away disturbing memories. But you will be helping a family missing a loved one.

Please PM me if you plan on coming down.

Message from Joe

Hey carole, I pulled out the radio equipment from sutherland lake area today. They are calling off the search and no body has been found. Would you or your friends be interested in hiking around in the beautiful rolling hills between Ramona and Santa Ysabel... and maybe help find a body in the process?

I have permission to be in the area of the search, I know the family would feel better if the body was recovered.

The victim's car was found about 2 miles up stream from the lake, on a very secluded, bumpy road, he had been missing about a week when the car was located.

Search and Rescue has been looking around on foot and horseback, they had a good turnout on Sunday, but Monday.. was a very poor turn out. Search and Rescue people are all volunteers, and on the workdays.. Monday... only 4 people showed up to look... nothing at all like a missing little girl or something. I hate to think what the family thinks of the crappy turnout to look for him.

with the bad weather in the forecast, they pulled everyone out and told the family.. sorry, couldn't find him...

The area is very beautiful, and my Grandmother used to live up the same little canyon, in the mid 1970's

I am open to an exact start time, but Saturday morning, the lake should be open for fishing, and we can park there, I am not sure about trying to drive out to the area on that road he drove.

Okay, I am not sure if the gate on the dirt road will be opened so we might have to hike in a little, there is a large parking area not seen in the lake picture.. since "now" the water is 50 feet lower. overall.. the place is very small. we could meet at the ranger house and decide where to leave the cars after that.

I am hoping maybe we can find a few more to come along too, maybe I should invite the skaters?

We will be meeting at Sutherland Lake parking lot a little after 7am

Coming up from Ramona on Highway 78, you would take a left on Sutherland Dam Road. Continue down Sutherland Dam Road until you see a sign for Camp Hope it will be a right turn. Take Hope road (I think it is) to the boat docking area.

I have pm'd you my digits.

thanks a bunch Bob

Joe will call the Sheriff tomorrow & let him know about how many folks we have out. Joe will have specific instructions on the rules of conduct & he'll lay it out when we are in the parking lot.

Carole, I appreciate that it was not your words, but this is clearly a body recovery, not a rescue operation. As such, I'm not sure that it is really appropriate for folks to expect that volunteers should be expected to be giving up their jobs to search.

So much gets asked of volunteers, that it is expected that it is their job to do things, and that they are irresponsible when they are not available, which is not really fair. It is one thing when it is a possible rescue of a living person, quite different if it is not.
