Anyone been up Telescope in the past two weeks?

Anyone have any info on "snow level"? Last report on SummitPost is from "early April" - rangers said on the phone the gate is open to Mahogany Flats but there's still lots of snow but would not elaborate.

Any BETA would be appreciated.

Thanks
Lilbitmo

We went up this weekend and spent the night on the saddle. Snow was avoidable until the last 400 feet or so. It was very soupy and deep towards the top, with postholing becoming a certainty later in the day.

Blindtheft, that's exactly the report I was looking for, I'll bring the crampons just in case the wind picks up, never hurts to have the gear.

Thanks for the BETA - looks like you had good weather as well.

See you on the trail - Lilbitmo smile

Snow is melting fast, there's some patches on the west side of Bennett, some on the service road leading to Rogers, and plenty on the last 400 feet of approach to Telescope but it's very soft by 10 AM on sunny days so it will not be long before all of it is gone.

There had to be at least 20 people on Saturday 05-15-10 heading up as we were heading down.

Cool pics. I have a gang of doctors that want to do this. I might just have to check this one out this summer.

Don't wait too long - despite the elevation(8K-11K'), it can get rather hot there in summer. If you don't do it within the next month or so, consider waiting until fall.
