Any advice for those of us who don't own winter boots but have good Gore-Tex backpacking boots (like Martini's Asolos)?
I had a pair of Asolo Gore-Tex leather boots before purchasing my Scarpa Summits. Used the Asolos on Kili in their winter (much snow and cold temps on the summit). I am a big fan of the old 'snow seal'. There are newer products that work well also. I would apply two coats allowing the first coat to fully dry before applying the second. Focus on the seams of the boots. If you need to dry quickly, a blow dryer on low setting works well. When I've properly sealed my leather boots, my socks have always stayed dry.
p.s. When my Asolo Gore-Tex's were new, didn't need to seal. The boots were new when I went to Kili (my socks/feet stayed dry but my toes did get cold). You can always bring 'disposable foot heaters'...
