Mt. Whitney Portal Store & Hostel Forums General Mt. Whitney Portal Store Message Board Switchbacks anytime soon?

Is everyone still shooting straight up the bowl or has anyone pioneered up the switchbacks yet? If no, how soon?

In my $.02 the switchbacks are still a ways off and will get worse before they get better. I had a good look at them Wednesday and the cables are super icy. A couple groups attempted the route at got sketched out at this point and traversed to the chute. Meanwhile the chute directly is a great option if you hit it around 6AM.

Richard P said he was going to carry a shovel and cut a path through the cable section on Saturday.

That would be great. And while he is at it, can you see if he can install a moving sidewalk all the way to the summit?
