Hey All... Greetings from Africa.

I just finished guiding a climb on Kilimanjaro today and wanted to share with you all a little news. The two in this summit photo with me were on this climb. On June 26 Brittany became the youngest female ever to reach the summit of Kilimanjaro.

As a mountain guide I always delight in my client's accomplishments and I'm very proud of these two. Brittany is 10 and her brother Joey is 12.

Congratulations to Brittany and Joey! I wasn't even dreaming of climbing big mountains when I was 10. I did dream of skiing the Swiss Alps at 10... Better get on that one. smile

Great job, Kurt!

That is a terrific accomplishment. Thanks Kurt for making a lot of dreams come true. As Brian Wilson once said:

"We're on safari to stay...everybody's gone hiking..."

Well, something like that. cool

Wow! Great guiding, Kurt. Quite an accomplishment to guide a 10- and 12-year-old! We look forward to the rest of the story.

Hi Kurt,
Looks like a great day to me! Just think of the memories you are helping to build. Those kids will never forget that trip!
Congratulations

My KID climbed Kili with me when he was 32 and he still talks about that trip some 16 years later !! 10 and 12 year olds have a definite jump start on that !

Hey All,

Thanks for all the nice words. We just got done with safari. I'm in a place with a slow and unreliable internet connection so I'll make this short. I'm flying home tonight and will be home in time to watch fireworks in Bishop. I'll write more about the story soon. In the meantime here are two more quick photos to share.

Lioness and her cub in the Serengeti.

As if this Africa trip hasn't been memorable enough as all our trips are we were flying out of the Serengeti this morning and we got to meet Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, the president of Tanzania.

Have you had a chance to write more about your trip? I'm thinking about whether to do the Kilimanjaro climb and would be especially interested in which route you took. Thanks!

That is awesome---must have been exciting to see those big smiles on such young faces. I know at their age the last thing I was thinking about was climbing a mountain.

As a veteran of a Kilimanjaro trip with Kurt I can highly recommend doing it with him. He usually does the Umbwe route.
