Absolutely beautiful, Richard. This deserves a quote about mountain beauty:

I was happy in the immediate presence of nature in its most staggering grandeur, in living intimately with something so splendidly immense that all life seems trivial in its presence.

Hi Richard,
The Photos were amazing. I gazed at many pictures for a long time. I have never seen most of the views. It is so refreshing to see something new. You are opening up a new door for everyone.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us.

Richard,

I was prepared to be amazed as you said (because your pictures are always so high quality and excellent); but I wasn't prepared for the utter beauty of these photos, and the different locations and viewpoints of most of them. There just aren't words to describe them. The lighting in some of them was simply other-worldly. In particular, the sequence of Tulainyo Lake pics with the white cotton candy clouds floating over the frosted lake with the glowing blue lining juxtaposed with the stark beauty of the raw glimmering snow-patched granite all around it was simply breathtaking.

Thanks for sharing all of these. 200+ pictures never seemed so to go by so quickly.

Thanks everybody.

I wish that there was an easy way into the Wallace Creek drainage, so that more people would see this up close and personal. It is an amazing place.

On another note: Doug told me that lots of the Lone Pine town folks would do day hikes in to Wallace Lake for fishing. They must have been some real hearty souls be able to do that!

That was a great album - I enjoyed watching it. Appropriate place for the Sierra Challenge to pass on day 10.

Awesome stuff, Richard! It's so great to see pictures from this part of the Sierras. What a time to be hiking through too, lots of water and just gorgeous views...

Richard, Awesome shots of an area I've yet to see (only from high on the ridge!), your pictures motivated me to make the east side access a priority for an upcoming trip!

Thanks!

Hi Richard,
I need your help to get some idea about your route to Wallace drainage. I couldn't recognize most of views after Upper boy scout lake(?)because rest of views are totally new to me. I can't relate myself to the views. You and GigaMike took a trip to Mt. Barnard last year through "Mike's chute" on Mt. Russell and Mt. Carillon saddle.

Where did you get down to Wales/Wallace lake side?

The map shows relatively level contour of Wallace drainage area but there are many creeks to cross. Was it very hard to navigate to JMT from Wallace drainage?

There was a picture after you took Mc break which shows two hikers coming down from somewhere. From where?

Sorry to bother you but I want to learn anything which interests me.

Shin, if you have any specific photos in mind, let me know and I'll try and caption them. I don't have time right now, so only a few of my photos are getting captions at the moment.

Check out the track below. The crossing is named Suicide Col or Cleaver Col, but is better known as The Clever Col and it allows easy access to The Clever (peak). (That's an inside joke.)

BTW, no need to head up to UBSL, or even LBSL. This route heads up at the waterfall above the E-Ledges.

Just head "west." It's a little more complicated than that, but the navigation is fairly easy. There are sections of the old Wallace Lake Trail from the JMT that you can follow, but it's not in the prettiest part of the drainage.

You should invite me on your first trip over. I've wasted enough time wandering around over there and can save you the trouble of doing the same.

I didn't talk to them, but I assume that they were coming down from Mt. Carillon. (BTW, this was persons 3 and 4 that I've seen while heading to/thru the Wallace Creek area.)

No bother. After 200 on Baldy, you'll need to head up here and spend some time getting big numbers up here too.

Hi Richard,
Thank you for the detailed information. I traced back the route you gave me checking against with the album. Now I understand 100% better. I definitely accept your offer to join me/us to adventure out the new frontier someday soon. The trip will be a major challenge for anyone but it will be worth seeing the views with own eyes and feel the vastness of the mountains.

Thank you again.

Those are the best photos you've taken Richard. The clarity, color, and composition are just jaw dropping. Thanks for the "virtual trip"...

Gorgeous shots, Richard. Makes me jealous that I won't be anywhere up in the mountains this summer. (Heading off to another week of 90+ degree MO BSA camping next week.)

I pointed one of my non-camping photographer buddies at this set and told him that's why it's worthwhile backpacking...makes all of the miles, thousands of feet up and down and freeze-dried meals worthwhile. Folks look at me a bit oddly in the back country when I have a big DSLR hanging around my neck but I just tell them it's my albatross and I have to carry it...

I especially like some of the flowing/falling water shots.

What a gorgeous set! The clouds (and I am assuming polarizer) give the photos depth. Your photos are always top notch. Looks like you used a 7D, may I ask what lens you used?

Camera on this trip was the "big" 7D with a EF-S 15-85 IS lens.
