Three JMT through hikers from TX need transportation from Las Vegas airport to Mt Whitney portal on 8/1/17 departing LAS at 12:30 PM. Plan to summit and make it to Crabtree meadows that night. Open to options and costs. Anyone heading that way at that time or know of the best way to get there as a straight shot? Uber did not show any options for that route. Thank you.

It's a long ride from LV to LP straight through Death Valley. Best is to rent a car.

If you fly into Burbank instead, can take Metrolink train to Lancaster, switch to ESTA bus. But ESTA bus schedule is very limited -- one bus a couple days a week (and not on weekends).

Also can fly into Reno and take ESTA bus, again, limited schedule.

Having a rental car will also help get to the Portal from LP. There is no public transportation from LP to the portal. You can hitch, pay a local shuttle driver, or drive yourself. Or you can walk the 10 miles. That's about it.

There's also Crazy Jack's rickshaw service from Lone Pine to the Portal. The schedule is erratic, though, and service starts at midnight.

Thank you for the reply. Looking for a point to point option from Las Vegas since our return trip is from Sacramento. We have transportation arranged from Yosemite at the finish of the JMT and will not be returning to the Whitney portal. Cost is not a factor, timing is.

Then get a limo (car service). Anything can be had in Vegas for $$$.

Las Vegas is not a good airport from which to get to Lone Pine unless you have a car. But if you are committed to LV, and don't care about cost, renting a limo may be a reasonable option. I once went touring in Red Rocks SP about an hour outside of vegas via stretch limo...it was trippy. They also have stretch Hummers for car service....

Or save $10/hour and get this stretch pink Escalade.

So many options!

Pro tip:If you are planning to have a dream machine take you to the portal (after picking up your permit at the inter-agency permit office of course), might want to go with a nonstretch version to make the hairpin turn on the road without too much show. That Mercedes minivan is kinda sweet....

Or help out the Lone Pine economy, and hire Lone Pine Kurt. He's a shuttle driver with a good rep.
