HERE IS THE SCOOP FOR THE HEROES HIKE:

The 2019 Mt. Baldy Heroes hike is Sunday, May 19, 2019. If you want to join the Whitney Portal Store Message Board team click here: https://www.crowdrise.com/o/en/campaign/wpsmb2. When you register choose to Join a Team and choose WPSMB. Donations are not required. However, tpo support our Heroes and to get all the cool swag here are donation instructions:

When you sign up, and they ask your for your credit card that's to cover your "commitment" to fund raise. You don't get billed, they keep it on file in case you don't come up with the minimum as agreed to before the event. After you've gone through the registration, it shows that you've "purchased" "tickets" for "$0.00". Now you have to go and "Donate" to the person you're supporting (yourself) and go to a different screen to put in your credit card a second time. It's this second time that actually dings your card, and you pay. Then you'll see that you've paid and on the team and you're all set.

Any questions please post here! Thank you and see you on the mountain!

The Climb for Heroes hike is almost a month away.

Tim, Chris and Patrick (Vet) were training on Mt. Baldy last weekend. They plan to climb a mountain in either Iran or Russia in June this year.

They were in great spirits.
Let's give them our best support for the climb.

Because it's been happening so often in the past that individuals were not getting their donations linked to our team and or they were not showing as registered under our team when in fact they wanted to or tried to be I sent Crowdwise an email requesting help to fix it so we can all help those persons that are struggling to make that happen. I will volunteer to help them correct it but here's the gist of the email back to me on that subject -

Hey Team,

Thanks so much for chiming in and I can definitely help.

In my experience, I've found the absolute best way to ensure no donations need to be moved is to make sure all participants know what URL it is they should be sharing.

That said, if anyone happens to go astray, they can Email Us with the request to be linked with the correct team and we'll take care of it all. If you plan to make any requests on behalf of another, please copy the participant on your email to us, just so we can all be on the same page.

For reference, the link you'll want to be sharing for this year's team is:
crowdrise.com/o/en/campaign/wpsmb2

I believe that covers it.

Please let me know if there's anything else I can help with. I'll be standing by.

You can but it's not a very clear process. JeffM was nice enough to add these notes:

When you sign up, and they ask your for your credit card that's to cover your "commitment" to fund raise. You don't get billed, they keep it on file in case you don't come up with the minimum as agreed to before the event. After you've gone through the registration, it shows that you've "purchased" "tickets" for "$0.00". Do most people do the full hike back down or take the ski lift down to avoid the monotonous final several miles?

A few of us take the lift down , I don't think it saves any time but the saves on the legs , we take a few of the old roads down that work the legs , so the last section is just , hot and dry. Also if is it warm at the start taking the lift up works , puts you up on the upper elevation in the cool and back down before it gets warm. You still meet all the Heros except the first aide stop. And we stop at the lodge and have snacks or drinks and regroup before heading down.

As of yesterday there is no snow on the trail from the Harwood saddle to the summit. There is snow alongside the trail but not on the trail itself. The summit still has snow but there are large dirt patches appearing everywhere and even in the early morning the snow was mushy and melting fast. Lots of blooms and greenery and crisp blue skies.

The Whitney Portal Store Message Board (WPSMB) team is currently in 8th place in donations. You can see the teams on this page:

https://www.crowdrise.com/o/en/campaign/climbforheroes2019

To join the Whitney Portal Store Message Board team click here: https://www.crowdrise.com/o/en/campaign/wpsmb2. On this page you can also check the status of your registration and donation.

Some tips to make registration and donation: When you sign up, and they ask your for your credit card that's to cover your "commitment" to fund raise.

We're less than 3 weeks away! Will be a fun day for a great cause.

Any trouble with registration or donation please contact Crowdrise directly at nposupport@gofundme.com.

This is the Registration Guide: https://fundraising.crowdrise.com/study-hall/guide-to-crowdrise-registration/ticketing

Jeff makes a good point. The Whitney group raised $3655 for the 2018 hike. We've only raised a third of that so far this year.

There has been some confusion as to the registration process. The registration process requires a credit card. When you register your card is not charged so if you think you have donated you have not. After the registration then you click the Donate button and follow the instructions to donate.

If you registered but your donation is not showing on the web site you can donate to your fundraiser at this link: https://www.crowdrise.com/o/en/campaign/wpsmb2. Click "The Team", click on your name then click the Donate button (under the Register button).

I'm realizing now that the people who haven't paid were probably offended by Tom. Good luck getting them to pay after that abuse...

ok, so I gave my card number once and signed up, now I go to the WPSMB team by way of the link here and there is a previous donor list of names, no way to join the team.

There was a place in the registration to pick a team to join or to join as an individual. Did you join as an individual?

I'll contact Crowdrise and get you added to the WPSMB team if you are registered.

I know that no one really knows, but I'm going to ask anyway: What's the weather going to be like? And I know it's been a big snow year, so how much snow? (I have axe, crampons, poles, avalanche beacon, snow shovel, helmet, harness and rope, but I haven't used them before. I've climbed Half Dome in summer, but just to the cables, so I'm experienced.) Thanks for responding, but no thanks if you don't respond immediately.
