Mt. Whitney Portal Store & Hostel Forums General Mt. Whitney Portal Store Message Board Store Hours and burger ordering

I'm going to be heading out for a SOBO JMT hike soon. Our last day (Sept 27 according to plans) is Guitar Lake -> Whitney Summit -> Whitney Portal Campground (and, yes, I've done this exact same day before and know what it entails!). I'm not packing a dinner for that last night since I'm hoping to get a burger fresh off the grill at Whitney Portal Store.

So, is there anything I should know about the store hours these days? What is the last possible moment that I can get to the store in time to order some grilled deliciousness?

On the flip side, after spending that night at the campground, we've got a shuttle pick up the next morning. What is the earliest that we should have the shuttle pick us up in order to have enough time to order and consume some monster pancakes?

The grill closes one hour before the store closes. Find out the September hours. Doug was very gracious to me and took my phone order one night from the trail when I realized I had service, but would not reach the store before the grill closed. Unlike the City life we deal with the great outdoors life so as it gets dark we deal with the how do you load the trash after dark and not load a bear in the truck? Or have the tug of war with Yogi So now we close the kitchen about 6:30 and start the closing, store closed around 7:30 PM All seating is outside so you could eat with Yogi in the dark,as the folks in the campground are doing but many are not happy when the smarter members of the area get the food and don't excuse the dinner party until they have cleaned out the open bear box or ice chest.

What time will the store open the week of Labor Day?
