Hi, I'm due to fly out next Sunday (from Connecticut to Vegas and on to Lone Pine, not sure which way since Death Valley will likely not be an option.) I sure would appreciate any post-Hilary updates on road conditions (specifically Horseshoe Meadow Rd and Portal Rd) as well as Main Trail conditions. Thanks.

Check this link out regarding Inyo County Roads. However, I would call the Inyo Roads Dept no matter what to get current conditions.

One thing that I have learned about this link, it's that it stays static.

https://www.inyocounty.us/sites/default/...%20rev.%20A.pdf

Tomorrow, I would go to the main Inyo Roads page and at the bottom, click on the roads contion link.

https://www.inyocounty.us/services/public-works/news/inyo-county-road-openclosed-status

INYO COUNTY ROAD STATUS REPORT - The Date Above Reflects the Latest Change in Road Status.

Please call the following numbers with concerns or questions:

760-878-0201 - Public Works

760-878-0202 - LTC/Public Works

760-878-0212 - Road

760-878-0250 - Road

For Caltrans, click on this link:

For Death Valley information, click on this link:

Also note that Whitney Portal Road is under contrstuction between Tuttle Creek Road and Horseshoe Meadows Road. A detour takes you on Tuttle Creek Road to Horseshoe Meadows Road and back to the Portal Road.

Though Death Valley is an interesting route, taking 95 out of LV and then turning onto 266, then 168 to Big Pine is an adventure... DV's 190 may open by Sunday - don't miss a chance to hike Whitney!

Thanks...I see that 168 from 395 to Oasis is now closed due to flooding according to Caltrans...but hopefully that will clear soon.

Based on the damage I've seen around Ridgecrest (washouts and debris flows), I'd be surprised if DV isn't a total mess...

I'm worried that all of the work that the (Sierra) Trail Crews have been doing all summer long is probably destroyed by this storm... Rutted trails are probably going to be the norm again...

I was planning on heading up this morning, but have a (really expensive) bike to recover from a mud bog... (stupid me thought I could go for a leisurely ride to survey the damage...actually thought I was going to have to use 911 on SPOT 'cause I was stuck too...) Hope the mud doesn't turn to concrete before I get back to dig it out...

Be cautious out there...

Definitely leave Connecticut on Sunday, you.ll have a great trip!
The conditions on the Main Trail will not stop you, you will only have to worry about your conditioning grin
