Based on the post a few months ago, Cayden and Jr expressed interest in riding Monache and the surrounding Single Tracks...
I went up yesterday, assuming the South Fork of the Kern River would be an easy ford...it was.
A few interesting things:
- I was able to send my first iphone satellite message...Goodbye Spot and there's no way I'm spending $500+ on the new InReach...
- It felt like trais access has been blocked in several places...
- I did find the trail I was looking for last time...it's overgrown and there is a sign (hiden by veg) limiting acess to equistrian and hikers...
- Deer Camps are starting to appear...(season opens on the 28th)...I saw a large herd off 20S07...
- There was some type of work crew...tree cutting and invasive species abatement???
Here are a few photos:
On the east side of the Kern.
Black Angus grazing? Olanch Peak in the distance.
Wilderness boundary (and the approach to the PCT).
Another Wilderness boundary...was wondering whether Dave Kirk still works the area...the Ranger Station is down this road.
The clouds did spit down on me...
