Let's all keep each other posted. It will be interesting to compare notes on the progress of issuance of permits. Thanks in advance for your input! (I can't hardly wait for news on this - how about you?)

Actually it is fairly pathetic how often I've been checking my online credit card billing to see if I've been charged yet. Last year I began planning a trip before I realized how difficult permits during August are to get... In the end I had to cancel my trip. This year I put in for eight alternative dates in August. I can't wait to see which day I get, assuming I get one at all.

I hope I'm not repeating an oft asked question but if you don't get a permit for the standard trail route, could you do the MR route on a dayhike permit? Or is the MR in the lottery now too? (I should know the answer to this one but don't remember the specifics) I have put in for August on a thursday day trip and for a solo permit (just me).
I'm hoping that might help get a permit but then again it may not make any difference. Since I have to plan so far ahead (as does everyone of course), I'm looking for alternatives. I promise that in the future that I'll go back and read the threads so I don't ask a question that has already been answered 20 times before. Thanks.

"end" -- we are both pathetic as I check the online visa statement morning and night. this will be my first year visiting whitney and i can't tell you how pumped up I am to give it a go, summit or not. hoping to get lucky with a one night permit for 6 on various thursday nights.
been watching hikealongpete's video and it's great. gives me a real good visual on what to expect. just got into the switchbacks last night -- awesome.
interesting thing is that pete said he did the route in late october and weather is absolutely gorgeous! makes me think that if we don't get a permit via lottery, we may try overnight or day hike on a walk-up basis in mid to late october, weather cooperating this year of course.
hope we get lucky!

My credit card had been charged for whitney permits on the 17th. It shouldn't be long before finding out which dates I got.

Dean, I got my MR permit back in mid January.I just called up the ranger station in Bishop, gave them my info, gave them my credit card number and I got the claim paper a week or two later. The MR isn't a lottery, yet, but they have reduced the amount of day and over night passes they hand out from previous years.

Hi everyone, long time didn't visit message board. They charged my account yesterday too. I put some dates for main trail in early June till first half of July. I can't wait to see the mail from rangers. Buy the way, does anyone climbed Lone Pine Peak via two big couloars from Lone Pine campground side? They can be reached from lower oart Mt. Whitney Trail. Thanks in advance for answer and happy hike with permit. tomi Please visit my website at: www.homepage.mac.com/artomis

Nope, Just wanted to let you know that I have really enjoyed looking at your pictures of Mt Whitney. The picture you took of Whitney that's entitled "Mt Whitney at Sunrise" is my desktop image. I look at it every time I start my computer and it keeps me excited for climbing Whitney.Nice Job!
What type of camera do you use, digital or SLR?

Thank you. I am using few different cameras, But mostly digital SLR. I am relatively new in the USA and I am just hooked on the Whitney, since I saw it for the first time few years ago. My biggest problem is I don't have enough time to go there so often. Sometimes I go there just early in the morning to take few shots and then go back to work (coming from LA area).

I haven't been charged yet either. I have a hard time beleiving that all eight of the days I chose as alternates were filled up during the lottery... However, they were all Friday-Monday dates in August which I imagine are amongst the most popular days to go. Unfortunately due to work constraints those were the only possible days for us to go...
If I don't get one of those days my brother and I are going to be crushed...
Here's to hoping that I get charged in the next few days!

When you apply for the lottery, they only care about what day you start. So of course leaving on Friday or Saturday will fill up first and is hardest to get. I've always put down to leave on a Thursday and I've always gotten first choice, even in August. If you have to leave on a Friday or Saturday, try going up a different route, and thus you don't have to enter the lottery. That doesn't help this time, but for next time.

My application was for a day hike so I didn't have much choice about the start date. I would love to do a longer term hike in the area, but it is very hard for me to get significant amount of time off...

Had a weird thing happen on Thursday. Saw the debit on my card for the permit charge for six people, but it never posted and has not reappeared. Thinkin' it's probably a bank processing thing.
????????
