Hello,

could do with a little bit of guidance on this.

There seems to be a separate permit for undertaking the Mountaineers route overnight through the Inyo National Forest - Wilderness Permit system with 60% of spaces released up to six months before. I got one of these permits for August overnight Does that mean I can camp via Mountaineers route and summit Mt Whitney without going through the lottery system? It states Overnight exiting Mt Whitney.

Many thanks

Mark

Yes you have a valid overnight permit ,could ask if you understand that isn't a permit for the main trail
Also the Mountaineers route isn't a developed trail and requires some 3 class climbing

Doug Sr,

many thanks for the reply appreciated.

Yes I specifically want to climb the mountaineers to summit Mt Whitney and have seen the varying classes of climbing required; I have much scrambling experience in the UK.

Appreciate this is not the main trail and turn off at North Fork. Was going to camp at Iceberg Lake. Also wayfinding is trickier in parts

Mark
