How does the Whitney Mountaineer Route gully compare to the class 2 "black stain" gully of Mt. Williamson?
How does summiting Williamson via the class 3 chimney compare to summiting Whitney via the 1st chute by the notch?
Thanks in advance.

The MR is much less demanding simply due to the fact that the approach over Shepard Pass and the long traverse across the Williamson bowl is soooo long, hot, and dusty. When we were up on Williamson a couple of weeks ago there were some hard men that had done Everest, Denali, etc trying to do the West face in a day. They didn't make it. Took us a reasonable 3 days. I definately can do the MR reasonably in a long day. There really is no hard technical climbing on either route, although the MR chute is more fun. The 3rd class "crack" on the West face is a little exposed for a couple of moves by the top and there is a sling that people have left to rap off from if you really need it, but you won't. Go to summitpost.com and see the route description and pics, they are very good. Have fun.
