thanks for the report and message.
I know first hand what can happen on the ice. I was one of the three that rescued the two men from whitney oct 2005. with out the proper gear and the training on the ice you could be risking your life and the people that have to rescue or recover what is left.

My two partners and I left from Lone Pine to the Portal 10/26/06. We stayed the night in the car (very cold). 10/27 we made the hike to Iceberg Lake and established camp. 10/28 did the first two pitches of the buttress in the afternoon. 10/29 woke up early to attempt the full buttress, but weather and time turned us back at the 4th pitch. Although the sun was shining, the butress had gusting winds in the high 20's and 30's. We did a sketchy wrap off into the Mountaineers route without incident. What a great trip! Thanks for all the beta everyone.
