thanks for the repost - any news on possible wind conditions tomorrow. Praying it all blows out here in the next few hours while I sleep.

Not sure this will be any indication of conditions on Baldy, but fwiw I was in the Victorville area for most of Friday and there was barely a breeze. Also, no wind at all tonight in the San Gabriel Valley/Pasadena area.

Yeah -- it makes no sense to try to get you with guilt when you just go and drown it! You cover Mt. Alice and we'll take care of Baldy.

The group hike was a huge success. We were not organized enough to know how many people actually showed up because some started a bit early. It was a very congenial group in any case. I was with the last group, which took off at 7:25. We were generally surprised by the lack of crowds all day. There was no significant snow below the Ski Hut and we had at least 12 people heading up some combination of the Bowl and some approximation to the regular trail. Several people chose to turn back as we ascended after the traverse from the Hut. The snow was pretty hard and above the Hut. Several people with no winter gear chose to turn around at that point. The crew that headed up the Bowl used crampons. The trail crew, for the most part, stuck with boots, with some occasional aids (I think I may have caused a couple of Microspikes sales in the near future). We had 9 at the top, or at least 9 who headed down the scree slope on the east side of the Bowl. We managed to choose several scree routes down, and everyone arrived at the Hut at roughly the same time. We had 8 at the Baldy Lodge for the food, drink, and obligatory moose picture. Pictures will be posted by various people soon. The final 8 were Alan K, GigaMike, Richard P, Tomcat_rc, Ridgeline, Jeff Scofield, M.C. Reinhardt, and Norma R. I am not telling how long the whole thing took, but it was not too long. It was a gorgeous day -- fogged in down below and beautifully clear in the mountains. Well, eventually, some clouds drifted up our way, but it just added to the look. Pix

Great hike everybody - sorry I did not get a chance to meet and chat with more of you. great job of M.C. and Alan K to put this together. Weather conditions were excellent. I did manage to lose my GPS at the summit. Can somebody post for me on the San Gabriel board - I forgot to sign up for that one - so I am just a lurker who cannot post. I will put some pictures up tomorrow. group pict: rest of picts tonight

Tom -- nice summit pic -- you look so comfortable there... not at all like a guy who just completed an arduous high altitude summit sprint from his camera and is trying to look casual.
I did post a mention of the missing GPS on the San Gabriel Board.

Congrats all! Looks like you guys & gals had a superb group hike. Alan & Tom, thanks for sharing all the great photos. How come I didn't see any liquored libation photos?
Dang, wish I could have joined you all but I'm still limping thru another crummy episode of "As The Torqued Knee Turns". Damn I hate that show.
Hope to see you out on the trail soon.
Cheers, RickG

Tom, nice photos of the Baldy hike. When are you guys going up again, if you don't mind another person in your group? I live in Torrance, and need some trail work before mid summer for Whitney. Thanks

great pictures Ridgeline - what a fun day - I will try and get the rest of mine up by tomorrow - brain is scrambled like eggs at the moment.
On a side note: hiking a southern sierra peak today with Hiker Laura(MooseTracks) - she had a rock give way underneath her. She slipped and caught herself. But the hand that braced the fall managed to slice on a rock and rip open her right hand near the first finger. After some triage we modified the plan. The rest of the group continued to bag the peak and Laura and I hiked out so she could get to a doctor for treatment. The doctors in Ridgecrest put 7 stitches in her hand and she is now headed home - ready for more adventure

This moose picture was taken with Richard's camera, but not by Richard (which might account for the stark quality contrast between this one and every other picture he has posted. Fortunately, Tom's camera also has one. Tom -- we're counting on you, man!
