Steve,

Thanks for sharing the picture. It's nice to be able to put a face with the name, even though most of us here don't know Ric.

My prayers will certainly be with Ric's family.

This is the latest information from the San Diego media (from 7/17), it includes autopsy information.

Cheap shot? It was written by a family member after the search was called off after a week, but before his body was found. The quote was included in the article only to support the point made in the prior paragraph that some thought the search had been called off too soon.

Save the discussion the cost and length of searches for another thread.

It sounds like Ric DeVan was a great guy, and it is a shame he died.

Right on. I didn't know Rick well and wasn't his best friend. He did co direct a 50 mile race down in the San Diego area that was a favorite of mine and I had only met him on occasion. Maureen M. who posts here knew him better. For some reason I can't exactly explain many who I become familiar with here and on other message boards somehow make a connection with me and my own interests and I develop some sort of bond with you all. The term friendship may be evolving in that regard. Rick was like many of us and the fact that he met his maker in the mountains gives us all reason to reflect.

"There but for the grace of God Go I"
Had the same thought, could have been any one of us. Very sad, very sobering.
RIP
