Looks like the forcast is changing. We might have to plan for the possibility of a little snow above 11,000 and rain below.

I'm telling you: fishing and polar bear swimming at Dead Mouse Lake! Woohoo! grin

I'll be sure to pack the scotch to keep the lake group warm.

Paul just left me a message on my cell phone to tell everyone who plans to do this hike to bring their own water to Onion Valley. The water source that is usually available has been turned off for the winter.

In the meantime, I'm heading over to Death Valley where I'll be a lot warmer.

I just had a vivid mental image of the old Looney Toons cartoon where they turn off Niagra Falls by a spigot when the sun goes down....

Just to clarify things:
It seems that there will be no water available at Onion Valley trailhead (where we start). there IS water available along the route, at least up to the lakes. Tomcat RC has commented that the water up there is not flowing particularly well and that some people may feel more comfortable filtering/treating the water.
So - bring water to start the hike, then make your own choice from there (bring water for the whole hike, or re-fill as we go.)

Regarding the weather: be prepared

See you then!

I have to work on Saturday or I'd join Laura at the Lake. My fly rod is feeling rather neglected since I've spent so much of my Sierra time trying to summit Whitney this summer. Hope you all have a great time, rather you're fishing or slaying the Dragon. I'll be thinking of you!

source A - this will be close to sight of first short quick break - water is good

about another hour or so is lake - this is where we will be tanking for water for upper portions of hike - have never had a problem getting water here.

All - Enjoy the hike and the friendships. I will be there in spirit, even if I can't be there in person this time, and I look forward to the pix and TRs afterward.
