I am looking forward to joining you on Thursday. I may have to turn around early, I have to pick up the kids from school.

Keep an eye on the news for Thursday. There is a fire burning near the I15/I210 junction, about 10 miles SE of Manker Flats. frown

AsABat -- You're good with the bad news. That fire isn't even listed on InciWeb yet.

Thanks for the update. As of now we're still planning on going. If you need to call last minute my cell is 760-920-1074. I'll be up pretty early in the morning heading that direction.

We'll just have to keep an eye on things today.

Well, I am not going to be able to make the Baldy hike after all.
It is one of my favorites, you all have a great time!
Kurt, great slide show last night in Solana Beach; we really enjoyed it!

And http://www.wrightwoodcalif.com/forum/index.php/topic,12588.0.html

Sounds like they are getting a handle on it, 60% contained as of an hour ago with some resources being released. The winds should hopefully die down tonight and we're good to go tomorrow.

A little early for Santa Claus, isn't it? Then again, every hike IS like Christmas.

Probably a Presidential candidate.

I have not done this hike before, but have heard it is a dry trail. Are there any places along the trail to replenish my water supply? If not, how much water would you recomend for this hike? I understand that mileage may vary, but a rough approximation will do.

there is water along the trail. But I usually take 2L and do not need to filter water along the way. But, if the Sta Anas are still blowing it might be a different story...

I usually bring one full liter and another empty bottle. I refill both at the hut.

It is probably too late for this, but is anybody driving up from San Diego for the hike tomorrow?

Looking at the link that socalgirl provided it looks like the fire will be a nonfactor. FYI, for those who have not done this hike there are bathrooms at the trailhead and at the midway point and there is water at that midway point (the Hut) also.
Here is the forecast. http://weather.yahoo.com/forecast/USCA0737_f.html

Have fun everyone...wish I could be there! Here's a summit shot of the last Baldy group hike in April '08. Note Kurt didn't make it; something about an Everest climb that took precedence. wink
