"The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely, or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quiet, alone with the heavens, nature...Because only then does one feel that all is as it should be...amidst the simple beauty of nature. As long as this exists, and it certainly always will, I know that then there will always be comfort for every sorrow, whatever the circumstances may be. And I firmly believe that nature brings solace in all troubles." -- Anne Frank To all of you and your families, may you find solace and contentment in each other this holiday season. Thanks to Steve and DougSr for allowing me to tell a few tales and share the ride that's been my new life. And thanks to all those who've responded: it's awfully fun having everyone along. From the luckiest girl in the world: Eat Lots, Smile Lots, Laugh Forever. -L

Happy Thanksgiving, Laura and to everyone else on the board.
Lots to be thankful for this year...even with the uncertainties that abound with the economy and a new administration taking over. Fortunate that we live in a country where our government moves through these transitions in a peaceful and orderly fashion (no matter whether you think the new team is better or worse than the old one).
Fortunate, too, that we live in a country with the wide open spaces and wilderness where we can go to challenge ourselves physically and refresh ourselves mentally and emotionally.
Safe winter climbing to everyone!

I don't think I can say it any better than the previous posts so Ditto!
Just a thought, as you sit with your families and friends take a moment to remember those that aren't. Solders, Police, Fire, Air Traffic Controllers, Doctors and Nurses and the many others that sacrifice their personnel holidays to keep things moving and safe.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!
Thank you for the great TRs! I look forward to my weekly escape with Moosie and her friends and seeing them "play on the Sierra rock pile"
I hope to meet you someday and maybe join in on a hike or two. Next year my son, hubby and I hope to summit Whitney. I, too, never get tired of gazing at that mountain.
Have a wonderful holiday and stay safe.

Solders, Police, Fire, Air Traffic Controllers, Doctors and Nurses and the many others that sacrifice their personnel holidays to keep things moving and safe. And the civilian and military who risk their lives in volunteer SAR operations. Yes, on holidays too. The following picture was taken at East Face (Iceberg) Lake at 0800 on Christmas morning, 1973. The China Lake MRG, assisted admirably by US Navy and US Marine Corps helicopter personnel, successfully found and rescued a frostbitten climber from high on Mt. Whitney's East Buttress. His partner had died in a fall four days earlier, stranding him.

TTT.
I give thanks for the friends I have met on this forum. But, this night...
I wish I had a kitchen large enough to cook a meal for all the brave men, women, boys & girls who will go hungry tomorrow. If not a kitchen, a picnic table, a park, somewhere I could place abounding food for our brave, our needy, our poor, our homeless, our elderly.
I think there are many on this board who feel the same. The needy may not be citizens, they may not have family members in the military. But then again, perchance they are...and they may not have anyone to share the day with.
That being said, I am very thankful for this forum and the friends I have made as a result. I hope to pay the blessings forward.

I had a meeting several weeks ago and out of the box of reference material I always have a copy of the Constitution, sounds simple but this makes me think of who we are, how we got here and why , It starts with that story "We the people...." well this is what Blooty is building on It's not a system or political party it is the people in order to form a more perfect union.
Please have a great day Thank you for building this extended family. The Portal Crew
