Man I need to put the sticks on - been too long. It is nice to see someone else actually SKIING instead of snowboarding - we seem to be a dying breed.

Incredible looking snow Steve. I haven't been to Sierra Summit in many years. My kids learned to ski there.Awesome family ski resort.

You must ski a lot in SoCal. Last time I was at Mountain High, there were only about five of us on skis, the rest on boards.
Mammoth and the resorts I've skied in Utah are nowhere near that bad.

Turn the camera around...
I don't want to look at Lone Pine roofs and trees without leaves.

True - most of my skiing is in SoCal (unfortunately, because it does not approach the quality of other places, but you ski where you can ski, right?). I grew up in Wrightwood. I haven't been able to ski Mammoth (or other northern resorts for that matter) in a couple of years, but yes the ratio of skiers was much higher when I did. Perhaps I will do my own part to stimulate the economy and make sure to squeeze in a Mammoth trip with the family this year!

Thanks.
That gray background is a nice effect. How are you going to get Whitney to show up in front of it?

Almost... send them back up for one more attempt. Seriously, I can't wait to see the view when Whitney pops out. Edit: and it did!

Here's an actual-size clip of the last picture today. It's amazing that you can see the trees just before Upper Boy Scout Lake. And the Mountaineers Route up to the notch looks incredibly steep. You can view the current full-size picture any time in your browser using this link: http://www.whitneyzone.com/webcam/whitney.jpgMount Whitney 2/13/2009 5:52 PM

I started archiving the Whitney webcam images a couple of days ago. qumqats's Whitney webcam archive for Feb 2009 May I continue to do so? They're your images, I need to ask. p.s. I'd suggest that if you can, that you add a copyright message to the individual images.

Wow Joel! That's a lot of disk space over time. I see you have some Yosemite pictures clear back to 2002. I like the raven in this Whitney shot yesterday. It's up to Doug whether he gives you permission. (I like the idea myself. We could add a link to your archive.)  And... what bad happens if we don't add the © message? Also, I've got a request from the SebecTec software author (his program drives the camera and uploads the pictures) to create an annotated picture from the web cam pointing out the landmarks in the picture. Anyone want to do the task? We could put a link to the picture on the web cam page.

What used to be is no longer, what is now won't be in the future. Disk space is cheap. I think I have a 100G drive in that server. It's not even close to full. Next time I rebuild that server I'll put in a 2T drive. I'm not a lawyer. As I understand it there's an implied copyright on any created images. However it's always better to have an explict copyright on the image or the page displaying the image.

Talking about annotations, are those wires on the bottom of the picture the wires to the Whitney Tram? This is a special camera indeed!

Whitney webcam video for Feb 19 2009 Finally got a full days worth of images that could be encoded! Been working out some bugs, you might have noticed some partial images on the archive. I think I've got that problem licked.
