Gone for a few rides over the past week and almost snapped my neck when I noticed that the wildflowers are already starting to bloom:

Gilia (maybe bird's-eye gilia).

Gilia (maybe bird's-eye gilia).

The first yellow flower might be a goldfield

I think the other yellow flower might be Geraea canescens (desert sunflower).

And the white flower is a popcorn flower (Cryptantha).

I'm at least getting a little bit of a workout climbing on and off of the bike and crawling around on the ground. smile

I took these in the Kern Canyon below Isabella two days ago:

They are not good images due to over cast, the sun just setting and being far away.

I would have loved to cross the river and climb up the hill and take some great photos!

Being a serious nature photographer myself, this time of year finds me chomping at the bit to get out there. And I plan to this weekend.

There is a great website www.calphoto.com that has a wildflower hotsheet of reports from people all over CA as to their latest finds.

But it's always best to just go and have a great day outdoors, hiking, riding, or whatever and don't forget the camera gear!!!!

Have fun!

Coming down the west side this afternoon, not only were the poppies starting to show, but the lupines were blooming. Beautiful!

Hwy 140 out of Yosemite had poppies! poppies! poppies!

Then my cell phone woke up in Midpines. Back to reality.

Shooting stars are blooming on the tabletops northeast of Fresno. Like a carpet!

Until today, I didn't even know they grew there. Apparently, they're the first wave up there. There were both lavender and white ones. ...but I didn't take the camera. How foolish.

The color was far more intense today!

Oh how I still wanted to climb up there!

Being that the wildflowers are blooming early this year, what would be a good estimation as to when the season might end?

Gorgeous photos!!! smile

My fruit trees think its is spring and are blooming here in SoCal. My red earred slider thinks its spring and came out of hibernation and is swimming around the pond.

Thanks.

I recently got the macro focusing rail that I ordered a while back. We'll see if I can go from those "dreamy" photos (kinda cool, actually) to some that are closer to being in sharp focus.

If the wind stays down this afternoon, I might have some more photos tonight.

That is a really cute red earred slider. Mine is quite a bit larger. Its shell is 8-10 inches wide,10-12" long.He hangs with the rainbow trout that my son-in-law replaced my koi with.I have Rod's u-catch-em trout pond.
