Bob,
May 24, 1952 was a long time ago. I believe Harry Truman was then president of the United States and Joseph Stalin was still head of the Soviet Union!
What great adventure for teenagers, followed by dogged detective work well over a half century later.
Thanks for completing and sharing this interesting story. Hope you have a rewarding climbing season in 2009.

I can faintly hear, "Now, for the REST of the story!!" Paul Harvey would have loved this one. I sure did. Thank you for sharing, Dr. Bob.

Interestingly, the rest of the story came three days before your post, but I neglected to mention it at the time. For the curious, see bottom of page 9 of the story.

It was when I first learned that you could meet pretty girls in the mountains:

The White Tower is a classic... both the book and the movie.

See, I knew there had to be more to this story!

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this story as it slowly unfolds (what's 56 years in the grand scheme of things?)

As a science geek, Richard Feynman was always my hero, as he seemed to break the mold, and present scientists as active and engaged individuals (outside the area of expertise) After reading this forum, it seems that perhaps he may have been more of the norm than the exception!
