I got a rejection letter today. I thought all the rejections had already gone out so I figured I was in and and just needed to find out my dates. What a disappointment!

I will try again next year.

I thought by sending a money order mine would be quick to process, but it looks like the oposite is true and those were saved for last frown

Still no word for me, I put in for the most popular times every friday or saturday night in july and august. But I was hoping to sneak in since I am going solo.

Unfortunately, permit spots are not transferable and there is only one permit sheet issued per group. You can become "friends" with somebody on the message board and have that person join you, but you would be legally responsible for that person. See Note 6 at the bottom of Wilderness Permit Options for more information on the subject.

Had the ole prostate cancer in 2003 and have gone up every year since. Did not get a permit in 2006's lot but were able to get 4 exit permits and could have had 4 main trail walk-ins. Was not able to get a permit on any day from July to mid Sept. this year for 3 but will try the same method that has already been suggested. The staff at the Lone Pine office are great and will try their best to get as many of us up the Mtn as they can. They along with the staff at the Portal Store are a great wealth of knowledge for some great hikes if you have to wait a day or so. Good luck and hope to see you on the trail.

Got my reservation yesterday for 4 for two nights starting Aug 12. I paid by check. I'm in Illinois, so the mail is obviously moving east.

This will be my first time to Whitney. A question - in previous years, it was stated that the overnight permits were good for two weeks, but you had to start on the specified date. With an exit date printed in the reservation, does that mean you MUST exit on the specified date?

I'm beside myself (does anyone really know what that means?) I got my cc hit this morning for the July 4th weekend, party of 4. In the past I've always listed a very large range of dates and was successful 75% of the time but this year I chose only the July 4th weekend because vacation time is scarce this year. Can't believe I got it. I'm beside... forget it - stupid thing to say.

The exit date is only for statistical purposes -- they try to get a handle on how long people stay.

I just hung up the Phone with the Whitney Office. My credit card did not go through the first time and they called for a new card number. Phew. Glad they called!!!
But that also means that my application was selected and I'll be getting a permit!!!!
Ut Oh... That also means its time to start training.

Good Luck to everyone out there.
See you at 14,497!!!

well, I still haven't heard anything, so this can't be a good sign.

So, my question is - how are they going to process the (few) overnight spaces available? The've provided dates for when they start accepting applications, but will it AGAIN be on a lottery, or is it who ever gets thru on the phone first?
