Was anyone on Whitney this weekend? There were some classmates of mine that were headed up there. They were in the Navy. Did anyone see them? They have not shown back up this morning, to my knowledge.

His chain of command has been notified and it is out of my hands. But, I am doing what I can through the resources and contacts I do have.

How many were there? How old were they? How were they dressed?
What route did they take? What was their itinerary? Did they have significant mountaineering experience? Are you the one responsible for contacting authorities if they do not come out? Did you have contact info for others who might have that responsiblility?

unfortunately, I have little info at the moment. I am working on it. You have to understand that I only a classmate and a friend. I had very little knowledge of this trip. However, I'm one of the few around here that has ANY knowledge of this mountain or mountain survival skills at all. I am trying to gather any info I can so I can pass it on to the people who are responsible for him. I will pass on as much info as I can, I know this is intensely frustrating for you reading it, imagine how frustrating it is for me to be typing it not able to do anything.

Too my knowledge, they were at least two, both in their younger 20s. I have no clue how they were dressed, but my friend had a receding hairline and a moustache, was avg. height and skinny but in very good shape. They had very little mountaineering skills to my knowledge. I have no knowledge of their schedule or whether they were actually ON the mountain, but I know that was his plan. Again, I am not the one responsible for them but I am the one who knows the most about this kind of situation who is, so far, involved in this.

Crap, I can't believe I forgot to give his name. His name is Charles Pearman.

I was up this weekend. Coming down from the peak at around 1 the CHP chopper landed at Iceberg Lake. According to our group that spent the day at Upper Boy Scout it had been flying up and down the mountain all morning.

Got the dilemma.

Here is what should happen: A call should be made to the Inyo Sheriff: Independence Sheriff's Station 760-878-0323 or 760-873-7887

If at all possible, a description of the car/license would be helpful.

If your buddy is supposed to be on duty, and did not show up or call, it would be best to get the ball rolling now. Everything gets more complex as the day gets along.

What happened with the Korean group. My group was camped at Lower Boy Scout Lake when the Korean group Sat noon time was taking a break. Was everyone OK. Conditions were burly, Sat morning around 4am wind gusts were around 60-70MPH and our tent temp with 3 guys in it was 28 degrees...

Everything is fine, they apparently had "car trouble." Sorry for the false alarm, thanks for all the responses! Finally got in touch with them a few minutes ago.

FANTASTIC! So glad to hear they're down.

Please direct them to this thread, and to this one:

when to call for help

so they can see the tricks to avoid a "FUBAR" over a minor problem in the future.
