... but tomcat_rc and Rafael did! Sawtooth Peak yesterday: http://piotrowski.smugmug.com/gallery/8046178_E54DaI walked home by the light of a slivery moon. ========== On Monday, I climbed Owens Peak and set a new PR: http://piotrowski.smugmug.com/gallery/8034530_3WjCwI thought I would be able to extend an invitation to Rick Kent to come out and better his, but I missed his PR by 29 seconds. This one hurt so much when I was at the summit that I don't know that I'll push that hard ever again.

That reminds me. I was gonna go back and try to shave a couple more minutes off without telling you just in case. I'd keep the photos off my web site and only post them if you succeeded in beating my prior time. hehe.

Now if only the two of us could beat Bob Burd to the summit of Marion Peak during this next Sierra Challenge ...

not enough spot signals for me to be sure - but if you turn at the creek crossing and follow the drainage up through the crags - much better route.

Yep. Sawtooth doesn't get much traffic. When I did it just over three years ago I didn't see a soul the whole time. Nice place. Oh, and rabbits have to be the stupidest creatures ever to walk the earth. Take a drive up Canebrake Road at night and you'll see what I mean, if you don't know already...

Tom, that's the path I took heading down. Sure wish I had better light. That terrain sure would have been pretty if I could have seen it! I'd also like to see it when there's actually some water running down the drainage (as long as I'm not in it).
Steve, I've been looking at trying your recommended route along the crest from Nine Mile. I didn't see any rabbits (I've killed a few on trips up 395. :-( ), but there were a lot of birds (quail(?)) jumping from the brush as I was heading back to the pavement.
Rick, just for that, I'm going to head up on the next cool day, leave all the gear at the trailhead and force you to come back. :-)

Added Mt. Jenkins to the list of things I've done this year: http://piotrowski.smugmug.com/gallery/8055467_pL6zu Figured I owe'd it to him... considering all the new ideas that I have since getting a used copy of his Southern Sierra guidebook. Also saw a few more familiar signatures:

Elic, Richard climbed a different "Sawtooth". It is confusing since there are a number of peaks with the name. Mineral King road doesn't open until around Memorial day. It has nothing to do with the weather or the conditions, it has to do with getting staff up into the area. The good news is that Tioga is about to open. Or maybe that is bad news since that means there isn't much snow...

I am just going to Whitney in a week and actually would like to see more snow up there. I have couple extra days in sequoia and was looking for a nice and relaxed pick. Seeing this nice pics I thought why not

Or maybe that is bad news since that means there isn't much snow... Actually most areas around Yosemite are nearly 100% normal snow pack with a place or two over 100%. Mineral King looks like it's ready to open.

GM keeps telling me he's going to surpass my peak total (easy with all those bazillon peak days you can do down south), so when we cancelled Sierra plans again, I decided to hit a few desert peaks today. Telescope, Bennett and Rogers: http://piotrowski.smugmug.com/gallery/8072666_LtswpThere were eight of us out on the trail today. More than I've ever seen while in this area. Some more familiar names! Telescope Peak today. The NPS "Morning Report" for 4/30 stated that gear was recommended for the final 1000'. Poles were adequate due to soft snow. It was only about 250' vertical of patchy snow. You could work you way around a lot of it on rock.

Hey Richard ... looks like someone signed in again just after your last entry on Owens Peak. Ok ok ... I won't torture you. It was me. The new time to beat is 72 minutes 50 seconds. Round trip time was 1 hr 59 mins 47 secs (from the wooden fence). Although I improved the ascent time I actually lost 4 minutes on descent compared to last time. I'm still trying to figure that one out. My current camera doesn't display seconds so I didn't know the precise time until after I downloaded the photos. http://www.rickkent.net/ViewerPlus/viewer.aspx?FolderID=802-Rick
