I was gonna reserve a site, then realized the reservation fee is more than half the cost of the site itself.

So... any thoughts on whether OV campground is likely to be full on a Sunday night in August? I haven't been there in years, dunno how crowded it typically gets.

If you plan to show up late, you probably will be turned away. One year I reserved two sites, but the host asked if we could consolidate our small group into one site since there were late arrivals who did not have a reservation. We gave up our second site.

Is it that popular? last year me and a friend would go hiking almost every weekend and we would just stare at the topos and say well here is a spot where the road goes in and it looks like it could be nice so lets go here but for some reason I never saw Onion Valley.

But I plan to go out that way the 3rd weekend in June to take a resupply bear can into the wild so should I expect to get there and it be completely filled?
