Campers:

So, not having cable TV, a couple of backcountry rangers of Sequoia Kings have been amusing themselves over the last 8 years by putting a stuffed sheep out on the trail in June with a note that it needs to return by September to Crabtree RS. It's got a notebook and people write of the travels and random thoughts. Over the years, sheep has been singed by campfires and lost an ear (kindly replaced by a red bandana by someone). But Sheep always came home. Sheep went out on the trail June of '08 and was never seen again. Oh woe is us.

So, if anyone sees a wintered-over stuffed sheep, probably a little worse for wear... -- on your travels this summer, get word to me or to the Crabtree RS.

Thanks!

Everyone have a great & safe hiking season.

Hey, We've met that sheep. Someplace, I have a photo I took of my husband giving him a lift. I believe we left him @ the JMT junction (not knowing which trail he had in mind to take). Unfortunately, that was several years ago. Sorry to hear he's missing, & sure hope you find him. He definitely gave our weary souls a smile, & we recorded our little bit of his journey on the notebook.
