Mt. Whitney Portal Store & Hostel Forums General Mt. Whitney Portal Store Message Board Birch/Thumb/Palisades

Hi All, I realize this is a bit off topic, but since I live in Hollywood I'm hoping some folks in the Whitney region might have better information on snow levels in the Palisades. I'd really like to ski one more time next weekend, and was looking at Birch and Thumb. If not, what's still skiable? The AT skis are giving me pitiful looks every morning when I pass them in the garage.

I saw some pix on summitpost.org today warning of bad avi conditions in the Palisades. Pretty weird for June. It skiable to me..

i was up on the pallisade glacier yesterday. i saw some dudes skiing down from the glacier to sam mack meadow. they were screaming, it looked rad. sam mack is melting out. it is at 11000ft. so you would probably be good to go at above 11000 ft. the snow is really patchy between 10000 ft and 11000ft.
