I am planning to head down the JMT after summiting Whitney. Does anyone know what facilities if any are at the Crabtree Ranger Station?

Thanks,

I believe there is a bear box on the ranger station side of the creek. Lower, at Crabtree Meadows there is a bear box there as well.

Other than that the ranger station is just a backcountry cabin.

There is a nice natural spring if you take the less used path going east from the Crab Tree Ranger station. Ranger arranged a small pipe tube tapped into the spring to get the water without muddying. You dont need to filter this water. Just fill your bag and use it. Say hello to Rob, the Ranger we met during our past two trips, if you see him.
If you go west from the ranger station, you will see a surprise open toilet facility too.

hiker123 - The natural spring that Krishna mentioned is well worth the stop. The water is cold, and does not need to be filtered (a welocome relief). Otherwise, all you have at the Crabtree ranger station is the bearbox and a simple cabin, no other facilities. But all the rangers there are very nice. Whitney Mike

Is that what that pipe was on the slope leading down towards the creek? smirk Guess I'll know next time.

Here is Bruce tapping spring water near Crab Tree RS. Notice the black pipe is not that obvious. The spring streams down to Whitney creek.
