T-11 days and counting until blast off from San Diego!

If you ladies have particular driving music that you enjoy please make sure you grab your CD's... my selection is fairly limited to some country music, alot of celtic music.. and a couple others.

Mornin', Ladies.

Just a few logistical things before I head out into the wild and woolly world of patient care...

Weather has been a consistent issue, with fairly typical summer cloud build-up and rain in the early pm, blowing through by mid-afternoon and mild nights. Temps last weekend at 11.6K didn't really drop below 45 degrees, and I'll be sure to measure things out this weekend as well, as we may be camping even higher. I'll be bringing my 40deg down bag, supplementing with hot water bottles as needed. I also love my down puffy parka, so it'll be along for the ride in case it gets chilly. Rain gear and at least a plastic trash bag for a pack cover are a must. Plan your own layering system accordingly.

The TOF continues to be a bit cranky since her recent major surgery: seems the mechanics "nicked the oil pan" during the procedure and now I have a small leak (of course, I had to be the one to bring this to their attention, even though they say that he was "working on it" and "he thought he had it fixed"). This is why I don't like taking it to the dealer here: they just don't get it right the first time. Anyway, she may have to go into the shop next Friday, which might mean she's not available for a carpool Friday up to the trailhead. What is the auto sitch? Bee, you and Tracie are staying with me, and I know her baby can't get all three of us there. What kind of baby do you have?

I will be carrying about 1 liter of water at a time: there is a good outlet stream from Ruby Lake 2 miles up the trail, another few tarns just below the Pass, then I think there's a stream at the far end of the pass (another 3-4 miles?). I figure we'll start by 0600 in the cool of morning, rest at Ruby, rest at the Pass, then decide what else we want to do based on how we feel and the weather in terms of camping in the trees or back up into PB. I'll check at home tonight as to which Tom Harrison map will show the region, as well as put a TOPO! map together for people to print out (if I can figure out how to save it as a pdf and e-mail it...).

Let the countdown commence...

-L cool

Laura... if you can put together the TOPO and email it to me.. I'll pick up some of that nifty laser printer map paper that they sell where you can print off water proof maps. I know they have the paper at REI and I had planned on cruising by there this weekend anyways! I'll make a copy for each of us and bring them with next week.

I have room for one more in my car, but we'll be camping near the trailhead.

We still plan on all you can eat BBQ at the Petite Pantry on Thursday? Ava, Carole and I will be up in plenty of time to throw our camp together and then cruise back to B-Town for supper with the rest of you Ladies!!!

I'm ticking the days off on my calendar... T-9 days until boots hit the dirt!!!

Well what you missed is: We went to A16 to listen to Jack talk about Whitney and answer any question that people may have. Carole and I sat in back and Tracie sat up front. Well then a very good looking man just happens to sit right beside her. She seems to draw all the cute Marines.

Laura & Tracie,

I have a mini-van if the SUV doesn't pan out..(SUV would be a btter ride than my old van)

I will PM soon as to arrival time on Thursday (Afternoon if permissable)

Purchased a Marmot Precip jacket today (so that I can protect my down jacket)

Are we secure on dinner plans for Fri? I am bringing mash potato portions for 6 people, total.

Leaving stove behind; mooching off of SoCalGal.

over and out..

I think there are 8 of us, but servings for 6 should be sufficient, I should think. We can always supplement w/ Bobbie's fish... grin

Um... so I think I was making dessert, right???

I will gladly bring dessert any day. I like to bake. Otherwise it's going to be experimental gumbo, ladies!

The SUV is reserved. Primary analysis on the knee is to try Kineseo taping.

Poor Andrea's going to lose 4 toenails - we warned her about those long, french-manicured toe nails. She won't be joining us. I've never seen such messed up toes!!! Well, maybe mine crazy but I no longer have toe nails...ha ha.

Speaking for myself, when bp'ing, Hostess fruitpies, M&M's, et al, taste like ambrosia (not that I don't appreciate home baked goodies...heck...I would stuff those down B-4 the trip) so don't knock yourself out. Maybe I have low standards, but Bumblebee pouched chicken mixed with my mashie potatoes for Sat nite is a gourmet meal, too, so same goes for main course...lunchie is pouched tuna with mayo packets (and relish if I pinch some from Der Wiener..)+ plenty '0' sweets..

Hi All!

I'm really interested in this trek however I only have a motorcycle and will be coming from Las Vegas. I can get to LA, so is it possible that anyone will be leaving from LA?? I'm more than happy to contribute to fuel and driving. Was also wondering whether it's possible to share a tent as well because I have to pack a light load on my bike. I know, I'm such a bum.....don't worry, I won't ask to share underwear or anything like that. Just ride, tent and some good conversation.

I appreciate it! Have an awesome week all....
Christine

Poor Andrea, I’ve lost one before but not 4. Pretty toe nails and hiking do not mix. Mine are very short and will be cut back right before this hike as well. I hope this does not make her not want to go hiking again, she had such a good time and really enjoyed it.

I can not wait until the 30th.
