You are all awesome!

I don't think Thor has ever seen such a large group of climbers, and probably never will again.

Thanks Carole for being the photographer. I don't think I could have missed out on being IN the photo. Thanks Carole, Ava and Bee for being so much fun on the way down from LBSL. I needed that after two long, tough climbs on the snow.

Thanks Tom for the link back to the Ashcraft memorial thread. I would have never seen the comments to us from Ilene as I thought that thread had been locked.

Hi All,
I'm working on putting up the slide show that we used at the Reunion Dinner on Web shots so everybody who missed it can see it.
The show came out very nice with alot of different people's pictures mixed together. We get many different camera angles and perspectives. I have 285 picture to upload.

For credits of the pictures I will post that these pictures came from everyone who went on the hike as a group effort.
That makes this a part of the event special.
Thanks to everyone.

I'll post a link when I get the pics uploaded and put into the right order. You can choose slide show and view it that way or look at the pics individually.

Take care.

THANK YOU all for the most awesome day I've ever had on the mountains!!!! You guys are truly awesome!!! smile

And Tom, Doug Sr, Richard and Mike: You guys rock! You made sure I was safe coming down the snow slopes!

Laura: Always my inspiration!! And awesome pictures!! I downloaded a few to complete my album of the hike, grin (oh I think I'll get some from Richard, too, hope it's OK, grin grin)

Gosh, this is turning out to be an Oscar acceptance speech! I am just so thankful for the fellowship and experience on the summit that I'm rambling... Karen and the ladies, and all the others I met, what an awesome day!!!

As I look over the posted pictures and my own I'm just amazed. What an epic hike--for the seasoned and the newbies. I'm still taking it all in. It was amazing. I thank you for sharing your expertise with a large dose of patience on my first snow climb. Wow!!! I'm comin' back for more.

My most sincere gratitude goes out to everyone who made this happen. Honorable mention to: Tomcat (for herding all of us cats); Ridgeline for sharing expertise; Traibud and crew for organizing the feeding fest; Steve C for the slide show; Richard P as caboose--keeping me moving down the hill when the legs said "no;" our very own stairmaster: Jeff; and, Doug Sr.--my own personal stopping device.

Big thanks to Earlene for putting up with all of us. You're a peach.

To all of my friends on the WPSMB: what a memory we'll share for a lifetime.

Until next time...

Karen

So, in talking to Tom on the way down, there seems to be much interest in Candlelight for next summer...

Fantastic views, multiple routes and relatively low altitude (so acclimitization shouldn't be much of an issue). No permit required either!

Wow! What can I say, this trip was filled with so much emotion. There was joy and laughter, there were tears and sorrow. There was also some fear and doubt thrown into the mix with a hint of hesitation. This was all overcome because of the bond we mountaineers share. No matter what our background, economic status or even religious beliefs we all share the same common love for the mountains, especially the Eastern Sierras. We all shared a common goal that day, to summit Thor Peak and remember a great Man. Kent Ashcraft.
What is cool about a site like this and trip reports like this is each individual takes something different away from a climb like this. Just like in church during the sermon each person might hear a different message even though the pastor is saying the exact same thing.
This hike although an annual event was done in remembrance of Kent's life. It didn't matter that allot of us never had the pleasure to personally meet or climb with Kent, he was our family.
I often wonder on trips like this what's more fun the fellowship before and after the climb or the actual climb itself. Most of us spent the night at the Hostel and headed to the portal in the morning. Laura led my group in the beginning but our group hooked up with Tom's group and we all went up the Secret route due to snow conditions. Gotta give big big props to Jeff for cutting steps and making the going allot easier for the entire group. Most of us had crampons and axes but like dumb mountaineers we left them in the car. Once we summited we hooked up with GigaMike and company. It was a great climb for me because I don't get to hike with Laura(moose), Dave(Ridgeline) GigaMike, Richard and Tom that often. Also got to climb with Arthur(HypoxicCrazyZombieDude) and Shin again! Met some new climbing buds Scott and Mike and Jeff. On the summit Tom read some threads about Kent and we sang Amazing Grace. I'm glad I had my glacier glasses on because I couldn't keep it together emotionally. It's tough when we lose one of our own. Thanks Tom for the words on Thor, you are the Man! Back at the Hostel thanks to Doug and the crew for giving us all a place to fellowship and BBQ. Thanks to all the people who brought food, we could have fed another 20 people. My bro Arthur brought up a point that we should nominate Laura for next year's trip organizer. Da Moose, Da Moose, Da Moose is on fire!!!!!
I had a blast and look forward to climbing with some of you this winter. Can't hardly wait until our group hike next year. Why wait Kurt is coming down south soon we get to look forward to our Baldy Group hikes.....
Tom asked if anyone wanted to say anything on the summit, I couldn't find the words and I was choked up so let me express my thoughts thru scripture:
“But now having been set Free from sin, and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our lord” Romans 6:22-23
When Paul referred to death he was referring to a spiritual death not an actual death. Our brother Kent now has eternal life and we should celebrate his life that he lived right, forever.............

Hi All,
Here's the link to all of the pictures to the hike. The pictures are placed in time frame sequence with the exception of the very first picture.

If I get anything more I'll post it.
Take care.

If enough people are interested in coming out (like this year) we can have groups on Candlelight (I like the idea of picking a peak out of the Portal) and Gould. Might even have some interest in doing Cirque. That's another area with fantastic views.

This past weekend was a special event. I don't think we'd want to have the same kind of mass gathering on any one route in the future.

Hi Like everyone else has said 'how do you put it into words" I want to Thank everyone . We have shown a great respect for the Ashcraft family and the entire mountaineering community . Many of the older members reflect back on others we have known that also are no longer with us and see the hardships and suffering the familes face after a loss . We can share that suffering and may in some way help others . Thank each and everyone for the effort and wealth of support that was given to get the group to the summit. Doug
