Today was closing day for the Whitney Portal Store... It'll be six more months until we'll be able to hang out at the store again.

The weekend was an emotional roller coaster ride...

Looking forward to many enjoyable visits down at the Whitney Portal Hostel over the winter season.

Thanks again to all who took care of keeping me fed and entertained over the past six months.

Doug, Richard and Mike:

It was a pleasure to meet you all today at the Portal Store. We really enjoyed the "Burger and Fries" and spending time talking and hiking with you all. Thanks so much! Peter, Ofelia and Jessica

Well it looks like the Whitney Portal Store completed another lap around the sun…. well done Doug, Earlene and the Portal Crew. cool

The WPSMB gang had some great moments and some not so great, but I'm optimistically looking forward to another great year.
Cheers,

I went to the Whitney Portal Store for the first time on October 3. I had just driven up from Orange County and finished setting up camp. Not wanting to drive all the way back down to Lone Pine for dinner, I thought I would see if the Store was still open, and if so, have a look at the menu. Wanting a solid and "safe" meal the night before my day-climb of Mt. Russell's east ridge, I was a little wary about eating a burger and fries at the unfamiliar Store. But I was pleasantly surprised. The food was great and propelled me to the summit of Mt. Russell the next day (though I could have used a bit more propellant on the sand/scree slog above Clyde Meadow).

The Store has character. I'm looking forward to hanging out there next summer.
