I came across this quote and really liked it. It's too long for a signature, but I thought I'd share it.

"Do more than belong - participate. Do more than care - help. Do more than believe - practice.
Do more than be fair - be kind. Do more than forgive - forget. Do more than dream - work
.
"

Thanks for posting this one,
After reading the quote, I remembered a note I read on Mt.Locke last year.

Here is my favorite, from my number one high altitude author, Joe Tasker:

“In some ways, going to the mountains is incomprehensible
to many people and inexplicable by those who go.
The reasons are difficult to unearth and only with those
who are similarly drawn is there no need to try to explain.”

I'm reading Joe Tasker's and Peter Boardman's Omnibus right now. Joe Tasker is also now my favorite author and 2nd favorite climber. The routes him and Peter did are unmatched.
My favorite quote though is by an American Climber named John Harlin Jr the son of John Harlin who died attempting the Eiger direct route,
"We never defeat a mountain; we only defeat the
things inside ourselves that would keep us from climbing the mountain”.

This Eiger quote might be appropriate in his honor.

"I believe no man can be completely able to summon all his strength, all his will, all his energy, for the last desperate move, till he is convinced that the last bridge is down behind him and that there is nowhere to go but on."
Heinrich Harrer, The White Spider, page 116

I like:

1) Mr. Moose:
“We made our summit. Yeah, I like the sound of that.”

Laura – I really like that quote and the picture of you and your dad. I think you captured a moment of true happiness, with your dad’s even greater than your own.

2) John Muir:
“Nature’s peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The wind will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves.”

3) And:
A jagged, gray, and ivory ridge
Jumps now to the fore;
Its palisades and spires
Hurling talus to its floor.
Every facet of this jeweled earth
Demands and echoes long,
Out of the canyons and through the chutes,
Off massif and buttress strong,
Proclaiming the written language of love
As etched into this creation,
Evincing the desire, and the power,
To perfect a people for his earthly nation.

Great quote, am proud to have met him as a youngster.
And he made it to 99...(switchbacks). We should be so lucky.
