Bee, no permit required to dayhike up Meysan, or to climb Candlelight from Lone Pine Lake.
BTW, the purpose of the above post was to try and get some of the people who can't make it late-season to suggest what works for them. A few of us climb all year, so we don't care when it's scheduled.

Looks like plenty of snow on the way next week. Maybe even some in Lone Pine? Could we see snow from Lone Pine campground all the way to Lone Pine? That would be very cool.

Hi Update the storm on Monday didn't do much, some rain and wind. Yesterday late afternoon rain turned to snow just about Lone Pine campground but then cleared by sundown . Colder last night so the system today may drop more snow. I will update tonight if we get snow lower than Lone Pine Campground Thanks Doug

I'm bummed too. Hubby is out of town so I have to stay home with the chillens. That hole parent thing.
We will just have to plan another one soon so I can come and play..

Richard, Great photo when was that taken? Doug, Will there be an update later tonight or tomorrow morning? Thanks!
Wish the clouds would clear just a bit so we could see the landscape through the web cam. There looks like a bit of snow on the hill closest to the camera.

Hi the storm started about 12 noon we have about 6 inches of snow in town now. Last word chains are required at the Kern/Inyo County line, 50 MILES SOUTH OF TOWN. We can have another hike in several weeks , I will be here and if we can do something this weekend or wait it's the travel getting here also that my also be a problem Thanks Doug

Wow, chains on the highway. The weather is supposed to let up so hopefully the roads will be clear Friday.

That photo was January 2008. I'm going to try and make it up for some photos and snowshoeing/BC Skiing/Avalanche Avoidance if anybody will be in town. They let us leave work early because of the snow accumulation on base. CalTrans had Cinder Road listed as the point where chains are required on 395. That's a long way from points north. The skiers who've made Mammaoth are probably in for a real treat if it doesn't blow too hard. Here's what my front yard looks like: It's actually the fist time I've seen snow stick to the ground in Ridgecrest... Another frivolous tick off of the list!

Roads will be open by tomorrow unless this storm does unpredicted things. I doubt road travel will be an issue on Friday. Wish I could make it. This looks like it is shaping up to be a fun weekend.

Yeah, I'm out for this weekend. Too much to repair and clean-up when we finally get a break from the deluge.

We'll have a group of four ready for the hike, weather permiting. Are we still meeting at the hostel at 9:00?
