Hubby and I were really looking forward to this, but it looks like the drive up from So Cal will be kind of rough. We have chains and all wheel drive, but if this is rescheduled we're OK with that. Fridays are always no work days for me, so a Saturday hike works for us. Will check tomorrow for any updates. Nan

From the sounds of it the roads might be clear after all on Friday, which would make a drive up Friday afternoon/evening ok. Got my fingers crossed.
Axeman, too bad, next time. Understand the clean up especially after fires then the monsoon. Good luck with the projects.
Looking forward to a great hike and food!

Hi Doug;
How is it looking up there? We'll be leaving in several hours & would like to know if its still on or if we should stay in the Southland.

Hi Snow about 3-6 deep in town roads are solid ice and not sure if they closed the road south of town last night but very little car traffic. I would say the drive up will be very hard, snow in the local mountains and the passes may take hours extra to get here I think we should try again in several weeks . I will be here if anyone still plans to come. Thanks Doug

I'm on the fence...even with my snow tires - I'm thinking the traffic jams from So Cal might be horrendous. Although, sure looks like some wonderful photo ops, hike or not.

Get turned around for not having chains or snow tires? The weather looks good up there, it is pouring rain down here.

Cool! Are you updating from the road? Can you update once you get on the 395? Thanks! Looks like road restrictions have been lifted for the 395 in Inyo county:
US 395 [IN THE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA AREA] NO TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS ARE REPORTED FOR THIS AREA.
[IN THE CENTRAL CALIFORNIA AREA & SIERRA NEVADA] CHAINS OR SNOW TIRES ARE REQUIRED FROM 4.5 MI NORTH OF JCT OF SR 203 TO THE JCT OF SR 167 (MONO CO)
- LARGE TRUCKS WITH SINGLE-AXLE-DRIVE TOWING TWO TRAILERS ARE PROHIBITED IN CHAIN CONTROL AREAS
[IN THE NORTHERN CALIFORNIA AREA] CHAINS ARE REQUIRED ON SINGLE AXLE DRIVE VEHICLES TOWING TRAILERS FROM THE JCT OF SR 70 TO 1 MI NORTH OF DOYLE (LASSEN CO)
Doug, we still meeting at 9am?

yes, we are updatin while on the road. So far the 395 is clear, there was some flooding near the Cocky Bull, but easily navigated. We just passed through Johanasburg. Its dry & clear. 83 miles to go.
P.S. the Cajon Pass was wet, but not icy. lots of big fluffy snowflakesM but traffic kept any accumulation to near non-existent. lots of snow in the mountains as we approach.

Mountain Ave between 9th street and Arby's is clear, but wet. Rain tires highly recommended.

Great! Keep the reports coming but things sound good. This trail does not look like it would require winter gear does it? Rain tires? How about tires with tread?
