My Telescope Peak report from 4/14 is posted:
http://matt.tracz.org/2010/04_14/

There's some cool pics of Whitney from my drive into Lone Pine.

The Whitney TR will be huge. Working on it...

Great pics! Telescope is so remote and desolate. Those kilns look like bee hives for a reason. I stuck my head in one to take a look and was quickly attacked by a hornet.

The McD's photo is a classic. Can't wait for the MR TR.

Thanks Matt - one of my personal favorite pics ever is an April shot of Telescope about a mile or so from Mahogany with my daughter on a boulder in the foreground, ice axe over her shoulder, Telescope in snow, but the ridge without. It's a beautiful peak when set off by that long ridge. Great pics.

Excellent photo journaling, Matt. You take the reader through the journey step by step. Great pano shots. Look forward to Part 11...

I especially enjoyed the Koalas and the yellow sea-level line – And I always love wide angles.

What are the specs including mp’s, price, and lenses on your camera.

Camera:
- Canon Xsi - it's now the previous generation Rebel DSLR, should be available cheap used ($400?). It's 12mpxl. ~15oz.

Lens:
- Canon 10-22mm f3.5-4.5 wide angle. Retail is $710 as of last year (got mine used). ~13oz.
- Canon 70-200mm f4/IS. Retail $1100 (used in Koala shots). ~1.75lbs.

Also have the Canon 50mm f1.8 lens, retail ~$100, but didn't use it much in this trip.

I used my Canon SD800 (7mpxl) pocket cam for ~40% of the pics in this report too.

The lenses make a huge difference, versus the camera body. The Xsi (Tsi is latest model) is entry level DSLR, but also much lighter compared to the pro level DSLRs. Still at ~15oz (not including the 13oz wide angle lens), it's a lot heavier than a pocket cam on a hike. But I LOVE the wide angle to capture my mountain memories.

I hauled up ~5lbs of camera gear on the Whitney trip.

Hi Matt,
I enjoyed your trip report very much. Thank you very much for taking your time to record the real feel of mountains and people. You have done superb job. I have never read such a detailed report about the final 400 ft. I'll study your pictures for my future climb.
Thank you again.

Thanks for the comments everyone. Glad you are enjoying the Whitney TR.

I'll keep updating my page throughout the summer/year. So check http://matt.tracz.org from time to time for more picture filled journals of what I've been up to. There's also a ton of similarly detailed hikes/treks/travels from the last 5 years too, should you be in the mood to browse a pictorial web adventure. Norway, Patagonia, and the Little Bear - Blanca Traverse would be some interesting ones...

Because of all of the unnecessary uproar last year, we're going low-key this year...

April Fool's Day Second Annual Culling The Rookies MR Climb. (I'm calling it a Death March.)

There are some people who are doing over three days. I'll let them pipe in if they are interested in making it public.

BTW, I think I saw that you're planning a JMT Ski Tour. I'd enjoy hearing about it as a repeat of Bartholomew's (sp?) trip is something that I wish I had the time to do.
