I met Laura, Ray, and Paul as they were driving out of Pine Creek Canyon. Apparently they had an epic descent of Feather Peak, which she will, no doubt, describe in her post. Sheriff SAR had been called and were ready to go, and have been called-off.
By the way, sometimes many of us have the urge to go help, but it's always best to let the SAR professionals handle things; we often just get in the way and cause them problems.
For those of you who don't know the Pine Creek region, Feather Peak is located just south of Italy Pass. In current conditions the approach is a snow slogg, up and down.

The rapid response on this forum has renewed my faith in fellow climbers; you guys are great.
Her fellow employees at Pioneer HHC shed tears of joyful relief when they heard the good news. Yep, there was some "Epic S...".
There is a good lesson in this: when your friends fail to come home - don't wait to call local Sheriffs and get them alerted to the situation, so they can get help out if it is needed. SAR folks have no problem with being called-off at the last minute; it's always a relief for them.
Hey! Maybe some of you folks ought to consider joining a local SAR team; you seem to have a lot of useful mountain experience that could be put to use.

Preview: Deep, crappy snow in the North Chute, rappels off the face, long sliding trudge down to the trail... Ooops, sorry, Laura, I'm given it away. Can hardly wait to see the photos.
Her employer, my dear wife, is very relieved. For those of you who decide to venture into Pine Creek Canyon, there is cell-phone contact between Pine Lake and to just above the trail-head. Spot seems to work well everywhere.....

This may be the end of a very good thing. Laura is famous for carrying things like scotch and brownies to the tops of peaks. With this outpouring of support, she is going to realize that everyone loves her and she does not have to do that stuff.  Laura -- we are all tremendously happy to learn that you are ok. And it will be ok for you to keep bringing the scotch, brownies, etc.!

I'm a little, OK, a LOT overwhelmed, you guys. Thanks for all the care and concern. We all three are home, fed, in the process of showering, beer in hand. As soon as the guys take off I'll get to work finishing my paperwork from last week... Long story short, Ray's and my descent from Feather took MUCH longer than expected, and we finally stumbled into camp at Royce Pass around 2300. With no moon, and with both RayRay and I being pretty worn out, we decided to dive into sleeping bags and hike out in the morning. Ray and I made a great team, and were able to make really good, safe decisions to avoid a bad outcome. And I've already been fully admonished by my boss (Thanks, Bob!!!) that I am never, ever, EVER to leave to go somewhere without my SPOT EVER again. (oh, boy...) Thanks again, everyone, for the concern. Stumbles, CONGRATULATIONS!!! Careful, though, Ray seems to think the shirt was the cause of all the trouble... -L
