I am interested in participating in the WPSMB Summer Group Hike 2010
Candlelight Peak Group Hike but have a calender conflict.

I will be coming up if I can clear my calender for that weekend from an already scheduled event.

Having never done this hike before , I have a question about the difficulty of the climb.

Is the class 3/4 route 1/4 easier than the class 1 route?

(Just kidding with you, JamesL.)

I hope to see you up there.

I'm planning to head up to LP Thursday night the 29th and stay at Horseshoe, Portal or Hostel. Acclimatize somewhere Friday (would like to hike the LPL route Friday maybe) if anyone is interested in a Friday hike. Friday night will be probably be Hostel so we can meet up in the morning.

I have it penciled in and hope to make it up there, esp since we were really sorry we had to miss the past two yr due to schedule conflict. Of course, I'm stuck being contingent upon health and dr appts, so I'll know more as the date gets closer. Since I can't possibly keep pace anymore, I'll just walk till Moosetracks laps me!

DougSr asked me to post a few photos of the route above LPL so that everyone could make an informed decision about their plans. While the lower portions of the route have some loose Class 2-3 rock on ledges, the upper slabs can be somewhat intimidating and are exposed.

Start of the route on ledges from LPL:

More loose stuff. Helmets are, of course, optional, but I would recommend it if we are going to have any number of people up there:

A little cleaner up higher:

Some slabby Class 3:

Getting steep and more exposed:

Steeper crack systems on the slabs:

Traversing the slabs:

Almost up:

What we downclimbed from the top to get into the notch in the ridge:

Again, intent is to inform, folks. Hope to see y'all out there in two weeks.

Although I reserve the right to change my mind, pencil me in for the Meysan side. With ...............Dug & Son (another Mike?) heading up that way, I know I'll have someone to carry my pack up for me if I run out of gas.

Oh man this would be a blast! I just read this thread and would love to go. I see DobeMom and Shin are going smile

I have to give a lecture for the Vasculitis Symposium at 10 AM Sunday in Long Beach. Last time I did Whitney Summit I had to teach the next morning - did was too much.

I, we - hubby and I, would love to go next year grin

Those slabs look like great fun.
