Hey MC,

Sorry can't do the 8th. My Dad will be in town and I'm going to try and talk him into going to the Harvest Crusade that is in town that weekend. I'm down for a hike on the 14th though. If you and Dave are in town on the 8th let me know if you want to go with us after the hike should be fun, good messages, and good bands that day.

Wow! Still amazed at how good it was. Can't thank everyone enough for all the support they gave my son. He was fighting a cold but with encouragement, snacks, GU and majic beans he got it done. The skinny dipping rumors are true and I hope the video is edited prior to posting. The fat guy in his underware was me. Too much fun!...............DUG

Thank you, Cindy, MC, Dave and Tracie! The fire was over 60% contained by this morning, with clear skies. By early afternoon, Norman convinced me to leave the house. So we packed the dogs into the car, picked up a pineapple upside down cake, and headed up to the Portal, grin Hmmm, hope this doesn't turn into a trend, this is the second group hike I've missed and shown up with dessert afterwards, confused

I was really looking forward to seeing old friends as well as meeting new ones. Too bad I missed Laura (we passed each other in the Alabama Hills)... But meeting Tracie and Gary for the first time, seeing Shin, Mark, Richard, Scott, and of course Doug and Earlene, and later Mike, again, more than made up for my disappointment in having missed the group hike. Looking forward to your pictures, Mark! They looked awesome in the camera!!

Congratulations on reaching the summit, everyone!!!! smile

Yesterday 7 of us including Laura and Axeman summited Candleight via Lone Pine Lake. It was definate class III with some of the move feeling quite exposed while trying to find the next solid purchase. Laura remembered the route fairly well between her and Axeman's skill, we always kept a good line going. We all reached the summit around 10:30am and hung around for an hour or so waiting on the other group. Sorry for not waiting longer, but Beerman and I had other commitments we each had planned. It was a nice day with friends. I will post photos when I get home.

Hi everyone,
We enjoyed the scenic route of Candlelight peak hike by Meysan lake trail. Richard guided us through Grass lake,Meysan lake to the summit of Candlelight peak with breathtaking views and beauty of nature. We encountered deers, marmots, trouts and two Polar bears at Meysay lake.
We met our old friends and new friends on the trail yesterday and all of us had a very good hiking.
Thank you all.
Photos are WPSMB photo link.
See you on next hike.

Absorbing the view.

The gang at Granite Beach.

Mt. Rockwell above a (soon to be gone) tarn and Meysan Lake.

The other nine on the summit of Candlelight Peak. (See the album for who's who.)

Where's the banner? Photoshop, anyone?

Mike finally having fun after a tough descent down the chute above the sand switchbacks.

The rest of the photos.

Fun day, folks!!!!!

What would y'all like the banner to say? cool

Seriously, great hike yesterday. Good to finally meet familiar board-ies Tracie, Doug & Son (hope you're feeling better), Scott and Jim, and hike and visit again with old and new friends: Tom, Laura, James, Rick, Ryan, Shin and Mark. Too bad we couldn't all gather at once (but perhaps the photo translates the spirit).

Now that this hike has become another happy memory, I will make good on my "big idea" for the fall hike and post pertinent info this week.

Cheers, all.

Richard,

Thank you again for leading us on another wonderful hike. You're always a great hiking companion and I never question your judgement. The scenery was spectacular! It was nice finally meeting Dug and his son Mike - what an accomplishment to do that hike with the nasty head cold. Gary and Scott, nice to meet you two gentlemen and I hope to see you out on the trails again someday. Shin and Mark, my BBC companions - always such good times with you guys. SierraGator, I'm impressed with your speed shocked and hope to see you again on the trails as well.

For the other group, I'm sorry that we didn't get a chance to meet up on the summit, but it sounds like everyone had a great time - and thanks to Jeff's talents, it looks like we're all playing in the same sandbox. wink

Kristine, it was great to meet you and your wonderful FAMILY and friend, and what a treat that you brought the pinapple upside down cake! You can have those boulders, though...I've decided to leave the boulder hugging to my Jeep.

Doug and Earlene, thanks again for the hospitality, sorry we didn't pull off the pot luck.

Until next time, happy trails!

Tracie

Jeff, whatever the banner that's sitting at the Hostel says...

Here's our lollipop loop from my SpotTrack:

You can get a bigger version at SmugMug.

I like the way Google Maps thinks Bighorn Park is a lake and Meysan Lake isn't.

Nice meeting a few new folks too. Thanks for the compliments.

Took Mike to the doc today - double ear infection/throat infection. Don't know if I should be proud of his toughness or kick myself for letting him go. Probably both with a heavy dose of kicking myself.

Thanks again to everyone we hiked with....................DUG

It was a last minute decision as a crazy week drew to a close to make the attempt to join in on the group hike. After leaving home at o dark thirty it turned out I got to the portal too late to join up with the LPL group. Not being familiar with that route, I opted to go up the Meysan trail with plan B to ascend Irvine, then try to catch up with the WPSMB gang at the summit of Candlelight.

After catching the Meysan group on the way up to Grass Lake, I summitted Irvine by 11:00. I could see people over on Candlelight as I began my descent down Irvine on my way to Candlelight around 11:20. By the time I reached Candlelight, one group had changed places with another as I caught up once again with Richard's group a little after 12. Couldn't tell when the switch took place as Candlelight was not in view at times on the way down the ne ridge of Irvine.

After bombing down for beer and burgers we did get to see the other group at the Store.

It was good to see some faces I hadn't seen in a while as well as some of the more familiar ones. Looking forward to the next WPSMB hike.

Hey Jim -

I saw your truck in the parking lot when we got back down to Meysan. You would have enjoyed the LPL route. Laura and Jeff were contemplating also summiting Irvine - but in the end gave in to the temptation of the Beerman.

We left the summit at 11:30am. Sorry to have missed you. I had lunch at the Portal and then was off to Bakersfield for the afternoon.

Well of course the banner should say Do Epic S*** -- but that's JMHO.

The pictures are fantastic; what beautiful weather! Sorry I missed seeing everyone; two funerals kept us from attending. frown

But the good news is that I just got back the latest imaging results, and for the first time in my oncologist's 40-yr career, he saw someone with mets to the brain improve: ME! And not only did I clinically, neurologically, and radiologically IMPROVE; I get to forego whole-brain and spinal radiation (I was supposed to start 8/2) AND forego brain surgery and a brain reservoir of toxic chemos. This is HUGE in the medical world. So now I'm going to see one of the top docs/researchers. Wonder if he hikes? ; )

Fantastic news! So happy for you. Hope the new doc/researcher will concur. And if he hikes... bonus. smile
