Not sure how to say this, but here I go. If you were the large party that climed Mt Whitney this past Sunday and occupied 6 of the backpackers camp sites Saturday night, it is common practice to vacate the sites while you are hiking. Thus, leaving the open sites for those traveling to the portal Sunday afternoon and hiking on Monday. There were many hikers looking for a site at 6:30pm but turned away because all the sites were full. Please in the future break camp before you take off for your day hike leaving the sites for those coming in.
