Jim
We would have seen her before she summited. Our group had about an hour and a half head start on her (if her 8:30am summit register is correct). So we were heading down the trail as she was heading up. We were on the ridge in the rocky section on the backside of the western chutes between the summit and the main trail.
I doubt if this helps, but I still have hope that they will find her.

Just heard from a News source that Ms. Yu's body was found near Fish Fork. Does anyone know where that is?

Fish Fork is just north of Baldy summit.
I think any more discussion from this point on is a little morbid.

My sincere regards to Michelle's family and friends.

Like Rick said, "Thank you" to all of the SAR members and volunteers who participated in the search and recovery.

I've been praying for Michelle Yu's safe return since the moment I heard the news she was missing, but when I saw her picture I got chills down my spine because I think I and my friends have actually encountered Michelle on the trail over the summer when we were doing training hikes for Mt. Whitney and I believe I've even spoken with her on the trail. Hearing that she had passed was painful for me, so I know the pain her family and friends are feeling must be a million times worse.

If Michelle Yu's family ever finds their way to the Whitney Portal Message Board, please know that you have my condolences.

Sincerely,
Lynn

While I had never met Michelle in person, I do know from reports that she trained often on Mt. Baldy, as do I. So maybe I do know a small, tiny bit about her, that she had goals and ambitions in the outdoors and was willing to get out there and go for them, and I salute and admire her for pursuing her dreams. Even if we do everything right, follow all the rules, take every precaution we can think of, sometimes things can go horribly wrong, and I'm very, very sorry that this has happened to Michelle this past weekend. I'd like to send my heartfelt condolences to her friends and family in this awful, terrible time for them.

BiletChick,

After seeing your post I went back to read the posts at the bottom of the article and was absolutely shocked. People can be so cruel. I know this is America and we have the right to free speech, but we don't have the right to hurt others with words or in any other way, By making this type of post (those of you who haven't read it, go read it for yourself because I won't repeat it), this person is attacking the integrity of Michelle Yu and the heart of Michelle's family and friends by spreading rumors. It's just not right on any level.
