I have spent the last several years on San G, San J and Baldy. This October I discovered Whitney and cannot get enough of it. 2 of 6 attempts successful to the summit. I haven't seen the Mountain without snow yet but look forward to a summit next year with a little less gear in the summer. Hope to see some of you on the Mountain. Thanks for the great info on the forum!

Has been an interesting year--mountains include Rainer, Shasta and attempted two peaks in Ecuador.
Didn't do a lot of peak bagging in Sierra's this year instead did a lot of rock climbing and ice climbing.
It's just better in the mountains

Mount Lassen on Memorial Day. It was the last peak I climbed/skied since I moved to Florida to complete my PhD. I miss the mountains!

Mt Whitney - First summit, September 8th 2010.
and frankly, I'm amazed and impressed at the number of summits some of y'all have. 56? 68?....170!?!?!?
Hiking definitely has some competition from the job, wife and my son's activities. No way I could get one summit a week for a year....well, unless you include my local trainig hike...
Where I haven't been getting much vertical in the dirt/rocks, I have been getting some vertical climbing in the past few weeks..
In fact, today I did about 700 vertical feet while I was working!!! I climbed two 170' towers (exhaust stacks really) and six 60' water tanks. Not much of a wilderness experience though. Unless you count the raven's nest embedded between the ladder rung and the stack.

I proposed to Vien, my girl friend on the summit of the Grand Teton. (She said, "Yes!") A few days later we hiked Longs Peak. We ended our trip at Golden, Co touring the American Apline Museum and watching the Rockies beat the Cubs at Coors field. I summitted Half Dome for 55th time and on 10/10/10 signed the register on Whitney for 25th time...A wonderful year!

Well it was my first ever year of hiking after major heart surgery (#5) in 2009. I made it to the top of Half Dome and Mt Whitney. I was extremely pleased to achieve this and both hikes were totally exhilarating and amazing. Although not a mountain climb I also finished a 100km (63miles) bush trail (Oxfam Fundraising event) and won an award for 'Overcoming the odds'. So now I have my sights set on Whitney via the MR, the Badwater 135mile ultramarathon, and Mt Everest.

I think 2010 was my best hiking year so far - 81 summits, 58 different mountains (32 in CA, 13 in VA, 9 in MD, 3 in CO, 1 in NV), and 45 new peaks. I spent the night on the summit of Mt. Whitney for the first time. I also hiked through the Miter Basin and over Arc Pass, I finally got around to climbing Mt. Irvine, etc. I also explored the mountains between Bridgeport and Sonora Pass for the first time. In that area, I liked the views from Peak 10659 (west of Mt. Emma) the most, and found that Lost Cannon Peak had the most fun summit block.

Looking back, I would have to say that the one trip that stands out in my mind as being the most special of 2010 was the April Mt. Whitney group camp out/hike - my first snow camp experience. I did not summit, but I had a really good time that weekend.

Not that many summits for me, but Whitney was included as I braved a little snow to reach the top in late June. That was nice because a couple years ago I probably would have turned around when/before I got to the cables. Did Baldy a couple of times, Ontario, Bighorn, Telegraph all in the San Gabriels. Also backpacked a few times in the local area. Bookended the year with a little snow walking: New Year's Day snowshoed up and around Icehouse Saddle, New Year's Eve backpacked up to Sunset Peak to spend a chilly night. Sunrise for Jan 1 was tremendous from up there!

Mt. Rehab x2 (and counting).
Hip scope in April, Replacement 3 weeks ago.
Lived on trip reports. Gonna spend this year getting back into shape.
Why Yes, I am crazy. I'm just not stupid.

Sandstone Peak (April) Silver Peak (May - Santa Catalina Island west end high point - during solo four day island traverse) Mount Baldy (July) Mount Whitney (September - via main trail - 2nd time) Mount Langley (October - 12hour day hike from Horseshoe Meadows)
I need to work less and hike more...already planned for 2011...Mount Baker, Iztaccihuatl, and Pico de Orizaba!
Climb safe in 2011.

My best climb of 2010 was a May climb of Mt. Shasta with:
Brandon "B-man" Carole "SanDi_Carole" Ava "Mouse" Ryan "Ryan B"
And we met Shin & Yeti (Jeff) at Helen Lake.
Mountains and friends....Don't get no better!

With all of the time I put into getting to 100 on Whitney, not a whole lot of other things happened this year.
I'm pretty proud of the fact that I'm still batting 1000 in Mexico.
I also pretty amazed that I'm still not bored by the Whitney area. I finished off the year with a tough climb up to LBSL today.
We'll see whether there'll be any motivation to have another year like last.
I'm looking forward to the WPSMB Gang heading down to Mexico next November. Had to find this thread and "bump" it! Becuase when I post on 12-31-11 what did you climb in 2011 it will take Richard all day to write his post!!! Also time flies. When he said looking forward to our climb next year thought we had all the time in the world....Here it is this coming weekend!! Yeti

I have gone by Humbug Mountain-Southern, Oregon for over 35 years and never stopped. This summer my wife & I stopped and climbed it. No elevation to speak of but there is more to a mountain than just elevation gain. The beauty was well worth the hike.
